what do you mean power the circuit?

unless you've already "modded" the headlight switch, just coding won't do anything for you... you'll need to do this mod or Eddie Man's in order to get the fogs to come on without headlights

Re: a Bit longer than 5 minute Fogs w JUST Parking/City Lights

I did this mod about 6 months ago, and today, my fogs are having a weird issue, which I assume is because the tape is shifting or the copper cable now has a bad connection. Without any bulb out warnings, and with a brand new set of fogs, my fogs will turn on and off on their own when i have them turned on. The weird thing, is that I get no dash warnings, and that the green fog light indicator located on the headlight selector will turn off along with the fogs, which leads me to think the problem is somewhere in the switch itself. I'll look into it when I get back to my car from winter break, but I figured it was worth a heads up, as I think it is a side effect of this mod.

However, that feature only works when you recode the lighting system to RTW. The Canadian setting is using fogs as DRLs. Since you don't need DRLs AND regular lights, they automatically disable anytime your regular lights come on, UNLESS you pull out the switch, so again, no AUTO setting.

P.S. - Props go to FatAuto for the initial mod. Eddie Man brought it to our boards (I think)...

For someone that wants to use the Canadian setting with fogs as DRLs, will just changing the VAG COM setting work? (I have an '05 B6 with no auto setting on my light switch) Thanks!

Just done this mod - quite fiddly wrapping the wire round the pins but only took a few mins to do.

Cheers to the OP for the photos of which pins to do.

so i bought and used 24-gauge bus wire. would this make a difference since it is not copper? it does say tinned-copper which i figured would work for this kind of thing. if not then i know why mine is not working. weird thing is that i covered the pin and used the wire like the DIY states and my fog lights work the exact same as they did before.... can anyone shed some light on this? (and yes, i did already change the code to RTW)

    thought all VAG cables worked...

if you have a mac, you'll need to either use Boot Camp and set up a Windows install or use Parallels (or another virtual machine app) to use a virtualized Windows. I've done both.

I tried removing the switch for 10 minutes but no luck! What am I doing wrong!? I started with switch at AUTO, turning CCW towards O and it clicks in twice. Then turned CW (while holding switch in) till it stops between 0 and AUTO and tried to pull it out but it just wont budge!! I also tried just pushing it in till it clicks at the O position and turning towards AUTO and pull out but it don't want to come out either. If i pull any harder.. something might break... Is it suppose to be this hard or am I doing something wrong?

edit: nevermind, figured it out! Here's what I did: Take off the fuse box cover on the side, then while you're pulling up on the switch, gently push the connector in the back to help it out. Once the whole switch is out, remove the harness and the rest is just like how OP described.

We did this mod on my friends 2005 S4 and the wiring seems to be correct (everything is working) but when we tried to do the coding for RTW his ecu refused to accept it. So his fog lights are still only working with the headlights on. Any ideas or reasons this would be happening?

did this mod and it didnt seem to work the first time. it just changed my miles to km and my clock to 24hr time. Anyway i got someone else to vag it yesterday and just followed the values up top. it works now! the only thing different that i did was, instead of taping the pin. i just bent it flat. so no taping required. good stuff! thanks

you have to love the internet.. i want to thank the Psycotic one, Eddie Man and FatAuto for this great post... the info on these sites are really priceless... i wanted to have my fogs work with my high beams.. and found this... i used a circuit board connector to jump the pins and shrink wrap with the glue inside to cover the #2pin.. less then 5 min and works great... once again thank you Psycotic one, as i did not want to cut anything... i am going to look in there in a few weeks and see if there is any melting of plastic.. there should not be, i believe that is all low voltage? once again thank you....... now if i can find someone here in south Florida to show me how to use this vag com!!!! that would be great.....

I'd like to know this too...

From what I understand if you vagcom to the Canada Setting without bixenons (ie: locale setting of 4) you would have this, but can you still vagcom it to that when you have bixenons and not "hurt" anything?

Right now, when I do this mod then vagcom to RTW, it keeps the city lights and fogs on, but no ambers, which makes sense since RTW would do that.

But is there any way to have just the corner ambers and foglights when in the parking/citylight mode (with or without the city lights) or as DRLs?

wow, it's been forever since i've checked this thread. on another deployment, sorry fellas.

i am not too familiar with the headlight hardware for the B7. i do know that, on the B6, if you get the euro e-codes your corners are not wired to be "parking lights", only blinkers and the "parking light" wiring is routed to the small bulb within the housing (city light).

as far as using VAG-COM on your individual cars, the ross-tech website has FAQ's for all the cars, with links to all the little "hacks" most people perform (ie. setting the car to RTW - rest the world).

i hope this LITTLE bit of info helps you guys!

I'll just post this so that if anyone stumbles upon this thread in the future they'll some more resources to look at
Thanks again to all you guys who figured this stuff out! (Psycotic one, Eddie Man, FatAuto etc...)

    Canadian B7 RS4 with bi-xenons (I'm assuming this applies to all bi-xenon B7s)

Basically as I mentioned a few posts up, I wanted the corner orange lights and the fog lights on at the same time.

I followed all of the steps PSYC0TIC ONE did except instead of using electrical tape, I just snipped the wire (Same result, just not as fiddly with the tape).
After testing that it worked fine VAG-COMd to rest of the world, I tried setting it back to "US/Canada Bi-Xenon" (last digit as 3 instead of 1) and that did it.

The strange thing is that it did not work earlier with it at setting 3. I'm not sure if you have to go to rtw and then back for it to work, or whether it was just some loose coupling with the connector since I also readjusted that in between as well. I guess if anyone's trying it and it's not working, you might as well try going to RTW and back... I'm pretty sure it was just a loose connection but who knows.

So for reference, the lights now work as follows:

    off/O - DRL lights
Auto - Auto... I don't really use this setting much
Parking - Corner lights, and city lights
Parking pulled - Corners, city lights, and fogs
    Main Beams - Xenons, corners
Main Beams pulled - Xenons, corners, fogs

The only thing bugging me now is the city lights... is there any way to disable these guys? I'm talking about the small dim lights in side of the DRL housing that aren't the DRLs

Nice recirculation of this thread. I did it on my previous b6 and just today had to look for it for my newer b7. Funny or maybe just easier thing was I didn't have to mess with the vag codes, maybe prior owner did this too but doubt it as the wiring harness was in tact and there was mods as outlined in this thread.
    Thanks!

Only way I see that happening is resistors & modifying the wiring. I somehow managed to do this when I was installing my LED city light & DRL's and was messing with the wiring.

Just did this on my U.S. B7 and it worked without VAGing. Except the parking, fogs and cities come on. Rather just have just the parking and fogs come on, but I'm just happy I was able to get the fogs without the headlights.

This works awesome by the way. My B7 had no issues and it took all of 5 minutes to go grab my wire, strip it, cut it, wrap it, tape, and plug back in.

    Thanks!!
