Post HOW TO: Uninstall/Install B6 Rear Bumper

Wassup guys, some of you may know already i bought a s4 rear Bumper and brought it to a show to get painted and installed and it didnt come out so well. I also bought a Carbon Fiber Rear Valence From Greg (400HPA4) So i decided to reinstall my bumper and Glue on the the Valence. Lets get started...

    here are the before shots...

Here was my dinky work space... only because its late at night and i wanted to close the garage cause it was really cold outside...

    I had entertainment tho..

    My Motivation/Confidence

You start by removing the spare tire cover and tire

Right in the middle there are 2 nuts that you need to remove this pice. once you got it loose. it comes off by pulling strait up.. not out towards the front of the car.. but up!

There are 4 latches or something and some clips that hold the interior of the trunk in.. 2 up front and 2 in the back. each have 2 screws

its easire to go throught the back door to get to the back ones, deeper in the trunk.

Once you get that done you can sorta pull the trim away from the interior walls.. i use a flat gead to pop some of the clips.. here is what the inside of the panels look like

i screwed back the piece that hold the spare down back i nto use as a prop to hold the panel out of the way as i unbolted the bumper

Loosen the 6 bolts seen here...

Same thing with the other side.... Down near the tires there are 2 screw you also need to remove on both sides

there are 2 screws down near the exhaust tips you will need to remove with a philips.

Once you got all of that off you can pull the bumper strait off... The stock aluminum strip at the top of the bumper doenst fit the s4 rear bumper, you have to cut the clips and either glue it or double side tape it down...

Thats about it tho.. you just have to reverse the process to get it back on. i had fitment problems still with the s4 rear bumper but i found it it was the rebar. check out down below to see how i fixed it..

Re: HOW TO: Uninstall/Install B6 Rear Bumper

After i got the bumper off i rolled the car out for more room and got my stuff together for the carbon fiber valence

    a little test fit...

I mixed the glue, spread some on the bumper and clamped it down..

Now im just waiting... ill post more when i put it back on and how il looks... stay tuned

    Dear god man, thank you.

Awesome write up. This needs to be made into a sticky in the DIY/How To section once you complete the install portion.

Nice write up so far. You don't have to worry about the epoxy, as long as it adheres it is not going to come off. The only way to get something that is epoxied on off is heat and you usually destroy what it is attached too, that's storng stuff.

do you need a "USP" rebar for an S4 bumper? or are they the same as the regular A4s

Re: HOW TO: Uninstall/Install B6 Rear Bumper

The S4 has the same rebar as the A4. Unless the car is a early 2002 model (before VIN split) there should be no issue with the rebar.

Re: HOW TO: Uninstall/Install B6 Rear Bumper

I GOT IT ON PERFECT!!! It was the rebar man... it was such an easy fix. the rebar stuck out a little to far for the bumper to fit nice... so i found out that you can adjust them like this..

By undoing the nut on the aluminum rebar mount, you can turn it to adjust the position of the rebar.

At its furthest position, I was able to move it just over 1/2". That means the rebar now would sit 1/2" closer to the body...this is close but not close enough. We need it to be even more closer.

Link to where i got this

Thaks alot guys for the info and help. I feel good about my car again and about the money i just dumped on it! Here are the pics. enjoy

So the rebar adjustment, you had to make new holes as well?

na just popped the bolt loose and spun the part where the 2 other bolts hold the rebar into place down all the way and tightend the bolt down..
