trying to make the best out of a bad situation.

So I go out to my car this morning which was parked on the street and I find a c230 coupe parked illegally and riding my rear bumper. The street has a slight incline and her front bumper is more than kissing my rear bumper. I pull it forward to check the damage and my bumper has a slight concave in it and there is a horizontal line from the benzes front license plate embedded in my bumper. I left her a note on her windsheild, she called me this morning apologized and is willing to do whatever to make it right.-cool.

Does anyone know how much it would be to replace a stock bumper and paint? I'm not even sure if the bumper would need to be replaced. What I was thinking though is I'm wondering if there's a body shop that could fix the bumper and paint my lowers for the price of the estimate. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sorry to hear about that. It's good to hear that she apologized and is willing to make it right.

Glad she's cool about it. I keep one of those throw away cameras in that under - my - seat compartment just for an incident like that. Hope they fix it properly for you.

My $0.02 is that you should get an estimate of the price to fix just the damage she caused. Then ask how much it would cost to get both the bumper fixed and lowers painted. You pay the difference to get the lowers painted. It would lower the cost of the paint as they already are mixing it.

Also . . . it is the honest thing to do. Having her foot the bill for both would be taking severe advantage of the situation considering she was considerate enough to call back.

Often, bumpers are just made of ABS plastic rather than sheetmetal, so they can't as easily be punched out. I had a dent on my old BMW's bumper and they couldn't really fix it. They said it would be cheaper just to replace. However, my dent was on a bend, so it may be different if its on the flat part.

I'd have her pay for fixing the car, painting the lowers, give you the mercedes, clean your house, and give you a massage, and then take you out to dinner.

yeah, you guys are right. she was pretty cooperative so far. I hope the repairs aren't too expensive because sometimes when you give them the estimate they look at it and go "oh hell no" and they have a change of heart. I really should've taken a picture to be on the safe side but I was in a hurry to go to work.

-oh and she's an older lady that looks like she spends too much time at the tanning salon so she doesn't really need to give a massage.

I concur with the above plus it was nice of her to call back and agree to pay for damages.

Tell Magda to pay for what she did and that's that.
