    What!
    I pay 20 in labor, 12 for filter and bring my own oil now that warranty maintenance is done.

    Something is not right with that.

    Over here you can't bring your own oil to an audi dealer and get the oil change done. Is it ok in canada ?

    That's still steep.
    Yes Tycoon, in Canada (at least my dealer) I can bring my own oil. I just leave it in the car and they put it in. You can also bring your own filters if you want. They just then charge $20 for labour.

    Something is not right, there is no way that oil change should be that expensive.

    Brought in my own oil and it still cost me $50CDN for the oil change. $50 include an oil filter as well. For $160, I hope you drive an S4. Oil change is free every 15,000KM in Canada, not including synthetic oil.

    That's about right when you include the filter, environmental charges, labour and taxes. I was just under 50 for the whole deal when I take my own oil.

    I change my own oil even though the dealer does it as well with the scheduled maint. On the B6 S4 its really easy, especially since the oil filter is on the top of the block.

    What I don't understand is why is our scheduled oil change only every 10,000 miles??? That seems ridiculous even with a synthetic oil. Shouldn't we have an oil change every 5k and maintance every 10k. Just my opinion, and I don't think its crazy.

    The mark-up on a $160 oil change is ridiculous.

    What really worries me about this is if Audi pulls some BS deal down the line where I get denied an engine due to an oil pump failure in 2009 because I change my own oil . . .

    That letter they sent us has me a bit concerned. Will they honor just sales receipts for oil and filters after 50k miles?

    basically they acknowledged a problem with oil sludge in the 1.8T and extended the engine warranty to 8years with unlimited mileage for oil related issues. . . if you use the oils that meet their specifications. It is ambiguous as to if it covers owner self oil changes after 50k.

    USA = dreamland
    Europe = da real world

    US guys always thinks that europe is a nice place to live.

    You guys don't have a service brochure where the dealer make a note and a stamp into ? Over here every car got a service brochure. A service is every 15k km (about 10k miles).
    If a car got no service brochure, the mileage is manipulated.
    If your car got a service brochure and you did every service, you got no problem to sell it for good money. Because your car is registered at Audi germany. That means all the infos (any service, whats done, when, mileage) is registered in their computer.
    Thats why a service is that expensive.

    Simple solution; BYOO (high quality synth that meets approvals/specs VW502, VW503.01, ACEA B4,... etc) at ea. 10K OCI service. Then all you're paying for is the oil. No need for "Jiffy Lube" 5K mile oil changes, unless using some dino crude.

    Other solution is to do your own "5K" OCI's. And you could always BYOO to another auto repair shop/tuner as well. There are plenty of cheap oil change places. Just depends on who you want touching your car.

    I just called a local Audi dealer and was quoted $85 for an "in betweener" oil change for the 1.8t. Forgot to ask what oil though.

    The filters are 12 bucks at my dealership, I use Motul oil. I change it every 5k miles. Since I do not drive but 5k miles every six months it is not to expensive.

    but yea that was rediculous, and Steves creek can kiss my asian ass. they treated me like an 11-year old kid. i would never recommend going there. they tried to charge me 150 for adjusting my headlights cause they were "aftermarket"..

    F#*K the Audi dealers and their prices. When it come to oil changes DYI! Just document the oil purchase and keep a regular log of all DYI oil changes. That type of record keeping and organization will more than suffice when it comes time for resale. In my case, I don't plan on reselling but turning my car into an SCCA racer for fun. So I don't give a shit about resale. Just a thought.
