    Did i kill my turbo??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Guys, please help me. I am Searchign the forums as well right now. Please help... I am only getting 2-4 pounds of boost. I am 97 5speed tq, with apr chip, 3 inch exhaust, n75j valve. My idle seems perfect, my vacuum shows 20 at idle, around 10 or so at highways speeds (at constant speed of 100-20 kilometeres) which is normal for my car. Although when I blip the gas pedal At idle) it does seem to hesitate a spilt second, and thats not always. Also dont think this has anhything to do with boost, but in the past 3 weeks, around once a week when i start my car my valves will clack (not too loud) and it's when car is warm. Like if I start the car in the morning, then drive for 10-20 mins, then shut off, then start say 5-10 mins later, they wil make noise, then i drive away slowly and it goes away?? I am thinking oil pump. As far as the turbo, I hear no rattling (which i guess is what you hear when you wastegate rod is broken) Also I replced the stock n75 valve 3 months ago with the n75j valve. Maybe that is the issue? Any help would very greatly be appreciated. Sorry forgot to add, the is no check light of any kind on, and I do have a vag, but cant get to it until tonight

You've likely hit limp mode from overboosting.

Try puting the stock N75 valve back in and see if that helps. Also use the VAG-com and scan for codes.

I'd say it's most likely that you hit limp mode due to a boost spike caused by that J valve.

unhook your battery for 10+ minutes, just make sure you have your radio code with you, that should re-set the ECU....

I'm pretty sure that limp mode will reset itself after a few starts. I would try swapping the N75 first, then start the car and see if it's gone. If not, then check with the VAG-com for any codes that may be causing it to recur. If there is in fact a stored code causing the problem, then just clear that and you should be fine.

I had an N75 issue a while back. I didn't get a CEL, but when I looked in the fault codes in the Engine Control module with my VAG-com, there was a code that said something about an "intermittent N75 signal". It turned out that the wire in the N75 connector was brittle and separated when I unplugged it while replacing my BPV. I just soldered it back together, cleared the code, and it was back to normal.

i have the vastegate rattling issue for like 2 years, still boosting 1bar. Does it take away from performance at all?

A rattling wastegate means slower spool-up, longer turbo lag. And even more worse, if your wastegate is not closing 100% it means that your turbo has to spool even faster/hotter to produce that 1 Bar. i had the same problem, made a difference when it was fixed.

Are you sure it's the wastegate? Do you hear that noise when you let off of the accelerator after boosting? It sounds a lot like an issue I used to have (as did many others). It's often related to a torn BPV that reverberates and sounds like a metallic rattle after you let off the gas.

If you have a wastegate problem I'd think you'd have a real tough time boosting 1 bar.

yes, it's a metallic rapid rattling sound when i let off the gas. I had 4 diff DV and currently run the hyperboost stratmosphere valve. It spools up quicly and holds 15psi at wot with 1bar APR chip. I have yet to figure out a way to solve it. Almost makes me wanna buy a new (used turbo).

I didn't think a 97 could go into limp b/c of boost....I know it wasn't until DBW until the ECU actually knew the boost readings...
