I'm getting ready to change out my tie-rod ends. Any suggestions or horror stories? I figure it shouldn't be too difficult and I have access to any and evey tool I need.

yeah it is 5 mins job, but... usually the stupid tie rod doesnt wanna come out out of the steering rack, I was doing it this weekend and it took me two days, I used everything from blow torch to welding machine, but i got it done, so expect the most extreme out of this job

Most importantly, make sure you get the toe setting re-checked after you change the tie rod ends. Even though you try to get the number of threads the same as the old ones, they still can be off.

ok, if i dont have a blow torch or welding machine, what would be the best way to get it off the steering rack.

i just had a race mechanic install the hd control arms and new hd tie rod ends from ecs. the driver's side tie rod end came right off but the passenger side needed some torching and a lot of swearing to get it loose. i'm glad i didn't try that at home. after the install i drove it for a week before the local audi dealership had a chance to get me in for an alignment. that alignement made all the difference in the world.

I replaced mine with CPP tie-rods and links, they get rid of the rubber parts and are made of billet aluminum!!! It is a must to have on our cars especially if you auto-x or track your car.
