so i was doin around 100 mph on the freeway tonight on my way home and i get off and start doing 60 when i look down to answer my phone an hear a THUD...at first i thought i hit a coyote or sumthin so i went back an nothin was there....i kept driving and ina bout 2 mins another thud and then the cel light came on....i pulled over and it went offf....it did this the rest of the way home.....what do you guys think? tranny?

66k on the car...and it had felt like i had hit something, buit i never actually hit anything....i just got to work and drove it as easy as possible on my way...the cel light was on but i did not hear any strange noise

you need to get some more info before you jump to conclusions about the tranny. tips have held alot more power than the k04 can put out... you can still drive the car right? when does the clunk occur under hard accel or under constant speed? there are many other options you need to explore before jumping to conclusions like that.

well i took it in today an they read the code an took a sample of the trans fluid........its black with metal shavings in it....my trans is about to die and the control module is shot

they said it wud be 7300 to fix it all, and i know i could do a lil better but i have nowhere near that kinda cash in my pocket right now

Sorry to hear it, I feel for you. What caused the black oil with metal shavings? Did you ever get any warning light? When did you last have the gearbox oil changed?

no warrenty....and the black fluid i have no idea the shavings was the trans....thats how bad it was ...and i only got the light after it started grinding...well i have a pretty loud system ....so it might have been earlier....but yeah...i duno if ima part the car an salvaghe it or sell to sumone for like 5 g's an start savin

you need to get it towed to an independent shop and source a tip tranny.... it would be interesting to see if the gearing were different in the 2.8 tip then in the 1.8t.... the world of slushbox is a foreign one to me.....
