    I have a 01 1.8t. I recently started getting an intermittent CEL. After a few weeks of observation I've noticed the the CEL seems to come on when I fill up with 94 octane, and stays on indefinately until I fill up with 91 or 92, at wich time the CEL will eventually(within the next day) shut itself off. My question is, is it possible for fuel with too high of an octane rating to trip your cel.

    i don't think so. might be a bad vacume line or a O2 censor

    Could he be running too rich? If the 94 isn't burning clean than the 02 sensors will start seeing a lot of unburned fuel. I dont know if that causes a CEL or not but if so then he might be right. I might be the gas.
