Performance review of 300 miles with the N75K on the MTM Stage 3...

The MTM Stage 3 has been running perfectly and datalogs have shown that MTM has left a lot of headroom in their programming, so I of course began the quest to massage a bit more power out of this setup (currently about 200hp and 260tq to the wheels).

As you will all recall my bro Jet Jockey is running the same setup and coincidently posted almost the exact same numbers on a different type of dyno. Jet then decided to install the N75K Monaco valve. This is a valve available through Dahlback Racing. His results were phenominal. He saw an increase of 10hp and an overwhelming 40lb/ft of torque AT THE WHEELS. The problem he had was that on the streets the valve threw the car into limp mode due to the incredibly high amounts of boost (29psi spikes, that's 2bar folks).

Being as I am shortly dumping the K04 in search of something more efficient, i decided to give the N75K a chance on my car. The results are awesome...

Over 300 miles of trashing on this car and constantly loading the turbo at 3000rpms, I am happy to report NO OVERBOOST codes and no limp mode. The vehicle now spikes 28psi at around 2800rpms. After about 3000rpms the boost holds at 22psi (1.5bar) until 4800rpms when the boost slowly tapers down to 17psi until redline. There is absolutely NO SURGING. The boost drops off like you were taking someones bloodpressure, nice and slowly.

I like this option much better than a MBC or EBC because it allows the boost to gradually drop off at higher rpms where the K04 really needs a rest. Will this limit the life of the K04 turbo? Probably. Will you have the same results if you put this on your car? Probably not, but it's always worth a try. I would either take my car to a reputable tuner who will explain why your car can run this valve. Ask him/her for datalogs on Lambda, g/s, inj. on time and load, knock voltage, and timing retard. If your tuner cant provide this data then you will be playing at your own risk. Cheers! Mike

Thanks Mike, nice write-up.....I might go that route with my KO4, if need be. We'll see after I get some time in on mine.

    Peace
