    Brake questions..rotors mainly

I was just wondering why we couldn't get an oversized rotor and put it on? For example, if our stock is 10 inch, why can't we get a 13inch rotor upgrade only and not upgrade the calipers and carriers? Would it just not physically fit or is there a different explanation? I don't plan on getting big brakes unless I win the lottery so I figure upgraded slotted/dimpled rotors would be good.

On a diff note..My friend's car with slotted/cross drilled rotors with hawk pads suck in braking compared to mine (he has a is300) but it definately got worse than when it was stock. And it also makes a ticking/clinking noise like the rotors and the pad is touching at some spots so whenever his car rolls it makes a tick tick tick noise. Can someone explain why that is and answer my other quetsions as well? thanks!!

The rotor will fit if it is designed to fit, but the caliper will still bolt up in the stock location (for the smaller rotor) so they would not be compatible. What you CAN do for realtively cheap is buy the 3.0L rotors that are one inch larger than the 1.8T rotors and than buy the 3.0L caliper carriers that will allow them to bolt up.

Your other option is to buy a set of used B5 S4 calipers and rotors which will bolt right up.

    Cheers! Mike

yeah, it's the caliper mounting that is the issue...

are there not companies like AEM that make a big rotor upgrade that come with a caliper relocation bracket...?

and you r buddies IS300 sound like he either has some warped rotors, or some pad transfer that is catching as it goes around at low speeds...

or whoever did the install just screwed up...

and your comment on his braking being better stock is not surprising...

Because you can't. It wont phyisically fit. Swept radius is different so pads would need to be changed, the calipers don't support that. The Carriers need to be changed so the rotor will fit. IT just won't fit.
