    Supra sidemount?

Has anyone here ever used a Supra side mount intercooler? I know the DSM guys use it, and it's efficient up to around 450hp.

You can find them on Supraforums.com for about $300-$400 too.

if it was efficient and cheap.... more people would be doing it on their A4s... but modifying any parts like that does not come cheap.

How many people even know about the Supra side mount in the first place? Maybe if they did, they'd be running it, like I said before the DSM guys run it and it keeps charge temps low on their cars. Look, if the SMIC can do the job on a 400whp Supra or Dsm running a 20G, Im sure it can do a very good job on a KO4 A4.

And it would be much cheaper than running a FMIC. I just found one on Supraforums for $115.....

Not a bad idea, might be worth it to do the custom piping. I was also thinking about using my friends spare front mount starion intercooler if I decided on a ko4 setup.

do you know if there are any fitment issues? Also do Supras have vented wheel wells? I think if you do this conversion it would be worth it to put in S4 wheel wells for better circulation. You will might need new software too if the IC much bigger.

At one time, I had 3 different MKIV Supra SMICs in my garage. I have tried the MKIV Supra SMIC on my old 1G DSM paired with a Big 16G at boost pressures from 15-20Psi. The unit is better at reducing knock than a stock DSM SMIC but, the piping and couplers that I had to rig up were a nightmare. In terms of actual performance, it was slightly better. I suspected that the extra pressure drop with this unit was due to the larger end tanks.

The MKIV Supra IC is a well sized SMIC but, the stock A4 SMIC is very close width and height. The only real noticeable difference is the thickness of the core.

I'm not saying you shouldn't try one on your A4 but, I can't see it make a large difference in charge temps. Besides, the main problem with the 1.8T isn't heat soaking, it's that we have a turbo that's too small and very fragile.

Here's what the stock 1G DSM SMIC looks like next to the MKIV Supra SMIC:

Good input, I'll probably give it a shot, since the IC is just too cheap it pass up.

As for small fragile turbos, I will be going with a KO4, or possibly T-28
