im wondering if resonators in the CVT are necessary. i took off the resonators last weekend and for the first half of the week it was running fine. however a few days ago i started getting this INSANE BACKFIRE. it is actually REALLY BAD and im just wondering if anyone who has a CVT and an aftermarket exhaust have any insights on this...

i think you need to chop your resonators back on and see what happens...

    SERIOUSLY!!!

i put the resonators back on... sound is gone...

    backfire still there...

    i am SO FRUSTRATED!

i think i need to have someone VAG my car to see whats goin on with it...

but as of right now... i am just... defeated...

im really upset that you guys are telling me that you have CVTs without resonators and run fine...

    my car WAS running fine...

i removed the resonator and installed new mufflers on saturday morning...

saturday all day, sunday all day, monday all day, tuesday all day... everything was GREAT..

then wednesday rolls around and i start getting CRAZY BACKFIRE!!!

since then... i cant rev higher than like 3k... and my car doesnt go faster than 60 mph...

its actually quite dangerous... i have NO IDEA whats goin on with my car...

    its SERIOUSLY retarded...

went to jose at eurotech and jeff moss to get this problem fixed...

turns out its NOT the exhaust at all.

both of them said that the resonator provides little resistance in terms of backpressure...

they both said that its HIGHLY UNLIKELY that its the exhaust...

however both agreed that it was something wrong with the timing...

and maybe something wrong with the coilpacks or the spark plugs or both...

jeff said it might be the GFB...but considering how long ive run with it on... it seems unlikey that its the GFB...

i dont think its the GFB either...

jose said it might be GIAC...

jeff said its probably not... but he'll retrieve my stock file on monday and we'll switch the software to stock and see if that works...

so thus far... ive determined that its:

    1) probably not the exhaust. i put the resonators back on and almost all of the exhaust droning is eliminated. its much quieter and its much closer to what i wanted in the first place. im happy with the look of the mufflers but with the resonators on its not that loud at all. however, considering my other option was with the resonators off and MISERABLE DRONING i definitely appreciate the quieter exhaust.

    2) i really doubt its the GFB. ive been running with the GFB for quite a while and i havnt had any problems after i figured out how to install the damn thing. the service reps at GFB are actually quite knowledgable and very willing to help. you just have to think in aussie time so they usually dont reply to your emails until later in the day cuz of the time difference.

    3) plugs? very possibly... im thinking about swapping out the plugs but i dont know what setting to use on the torque wrench. anyone know how much torque is used on the plugs?

    4) coilpacks. probably not. we switched around the coilpacks and they all seem to firing just fine.

    DAYAM!??! FOR A TORQUE WRENCH?!

    freakin tools are EXPENSIVE!!!

i wanna get jacks and jack stands too... so i can do my own work instead of asking marcos everytime...

hes so freakin patient!!! sometimes im just like ARGH FORGET IT MARCOS...and hes always the one that insists on doing things RIGHT and being super careful and stuff...
