    Exclamation Rain-X Wiper Blade Installation

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Someone please help me with this installation. I have searched everywhere and cannot find anything on it. The middle connector piece does not seem to fit or work at all. I am getting pretty ticked off.

People have said that they use Rain-X wiper blades. So does anyone know how to install these pieces. before i go insane because even changing wiper blades is too simple for audi so they have to make it difficult...

they don't fit. Audi uses special connects for their wiper blades. there's two kinds, check on ECS or tire rack.

what about the people telling me "i have Rain-X blades, they work great."

did they retrofit yet forget to mention that. i hate people like that, makes me want to punch them in the face.

    Re: Rain-X Wiper Blade Installation

02 Model year uses proprietary connectors, you can get those wipers for reasonable prices from a dealer.
I snapped plastic in my arm because I got too angry that no wipers could fit, so I ended up with aero wipers and I never regret that.
It's a good upgrade and gives you freedom to put any wipers you want.
Just get rain-X windshield washer or just spray windshield with it.

i hate audi. the box says "fits 98% of all wipers". obviously, this stupid car is in the 2% that it doesnt fit.

I've read your previous thread, all people that replied had models other than 2002. Our MY used that shitty design, most of the following models used aero. Just got to ECS and buy new arms.

the aero set-up also uses a proprietary connect, just different then the 02's. you still need to get them from the dealer or a speciality online shop.

    Re: Rain-X Wiper Blade Installation

yeah silly me for assuming that something that fit one B6 wouldnt fit another B6 (especially since it was an 03, before the major changes on the B6).

So would the refills that Old Guy was talking about in my previous thread work? From autozone, WR-22s that supposedly slide in the 8 fingers on the top of the blade. That, i can see happening, but i dont feel like wasting another 25 bucks for blades that dont fit.

I cant get them from ECS cause I need them ASAP with this weather. My drivers side wiper is completely fallen off so if it snows i am effed. and i loathe the stealership and dont wanna pay 50 bucks for a set of wipers.

so the new question, will WR-22s from Autozone fit on my 2002 A4?

I think old guy was just refering to just the rubber part, ie no actual blade assembly. You just slide it off or rip it off and put replacement on. I don't think you will get quality or OEM but it will work till you get proper set. On Your place I would just try to transplant Rain-X

They aren't $50/set, I bought replacement inserts that you cut to length for $5/each.

I'm confused about the aeros though, can you or can't you use regular wipers replacements?

The Audi replacements are $50+ a set for the regular 2002-2004 blades. The aero conversion replaces your stock wiper arms with the arms for the aero blades (~$100 for the kit). I went with the Aero conversion, but i think the original old school wiper arms/blades were better in harsh winter weather conditions. They seem less prone to icing.

The W22-R Anco refills are $5.99 (per pair) at AutoZone. I just replaced mine less than a week ago.

Ok, I actually bought the replacements and they did not work. I am going to go back and get just the blades right now. Is it easy to swap out the refills?

Depending upon what you currently have there will either be a small metal or plastic clip on one end of the wiper blade. Remove the clip, slide the rubber blade out of the 8 sets of "fingers" that hold the blade in place, slide in the replacement blade, and secure with the new attachment clip.

    Easy peasy!

    Re: Rain-X Wiper Blade Installation

Over the weekend I went to and/or called every AutoZone in Columbus and all their computers showed they had them in stock, but no one did.
One AutoZone told me that the N22-R would fit so I bought them, but I have not tried them yet because I don't think they will work.
After work I think I will just going to go to the dealership and spend the $15/ea. on the stock replacements.

    Thanks for the help.

the refill's were a bitch to replace, i'd suggest spending the extra money from the dealer or ECS than waste your time pulling the rubber and the trying to replace the rubber with new ones, I did that route trying to save a couple bucks and i got one done with no problems and spent another 40 mins on the passenger side, the stupid metal things kept coming loose.

I don't understand the problem. takes all of 5 minutes to replace both inserts Maybe you got a different insert? I have an '03 and the insert I use is an Anco W-22R. Maybe you need to bend your "fingers" open slightly to get them to slide in easier?

the ending clamps were the pill, but i think the fact those metal guides kept falling out of place was what was giving me trouble, the other one was pretty much a breeze, but in the future i'd rather just pop the whole piece off and go with the new arms. As for aero blades, as soon as i heard the suck with ice, that was a deal breaker for me. I know what you all are thinking, Socal how much ice? But when i go up to the mountains i don't want to have to deal with snapping my blades just so i can see. STAY OEM, no aero blades.

Same here, the ones I got from Audi were $5 a piece for cut to length inserts, not $50 like EBG 18T said. And they took around 5 minutes to replace...

Aero blades are superior, only because it rains way more often than it snows (at least in NYC). For broken arms, I just don't tighten them too much so if there excessive force, then nut will get loose. Full blast front defrost, anti-freeze w/ Rain-X, manually clear snow/ice from wipers and I'm good.
On top of that, Aero just looks better.

The replacement blades are not $50+ I just picked them up from Byers Imports in Columbus and they were $12.50/ea, so for less than $28.00 including tax I was done.
