    K04's on a stage1 1999 S4

    Is it possible to run k04's on a stage1 (310hp) 1999 s4 (wich now has the stock turbo's on it) without changing anything else except dv's, tbb and a samco hose kit? I am going to get my current turbo's replaced (failing passenger side turbo) and was wondering if it would be wise switch to k04's. But i do not want to change anything else (so no new chip etc etc).

    Why would you run new Turbo's without new software. Minimal advantage to be gained. And you run the risk or running lean.

    He is correct... you just run more of a chance of leaning out the car... unless you tend to drive slowly and only limit yourself to 62kmph

    From reading other posts regarding the k04 i understand that with the k04 there is less chance of a future turbo failure (not caused by other factors like oil feed problems etc. etc.). Hence the idea of upgrading to the k04.

    ummm.... who said that?

    The K04 turbo is still under the same conditions that the K03 is under. You do have to factor in the oil feed problems... just because you are throwing in K04s that is less likely to happen?

    If you look at just the turbo isn't the k04 less prone to failure then the k03 at higher boost levels? I mean just looking at the turbo and not taking oil feeds (and heating of oil feed lines by exhaust pipes etc etc) into account. Ofcourse i understand that it is not that simpel. I will be asking my dealer to look into the oil feed problem as well ( oil feed lines heating up ). I just want to make sure that i am not back in the garage to have to deal with this problem again :)

    sure with that said... you can say the same things about K03s...

    sure they will hold up when they arent installed in an S4.

    Ok.. but as soon as i put them into the car other things like oil feeds/coolers etc. etc. come into play. But as i understand from the first two posts it's not such a good idea to put them in without a software upgrade. Again, i just want to improve the reliability of the car. Overall i am happy with the performance of the car so i am just looking into the stuff i can do to improve reliability.

    improve reliability..... use Mobil 0-40 or 0-50 and always properly cool down your turbos.

    If you havent had the oil lines updated... nows a good time.

    Indeed. Warmup and cooldown is important. I don't think i have upgraded oil lines. I'll give my dealer a call to ask them to order the new oil lines (both feed and return) as well. As far as i know the part numbers for the current oil lines are :

    078 145 777 B and 078 145 778 B (oil supply).
    078 145 735 C and 078 145 736 B (oil return).

    I am not sure what the latest revision of these parts is. Does anyone know what the part nr. for the latest oil feed and return lines are?

    My dealer is using the 078 145 701S and the 078 145 702S as replacement turbo's.
