    Question I smoked a mustang

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I don't know how but I smoked this black mustang convertible just now. (it's 11pm)

The freeway was empty in burbank so I started to speed up to take a freeway interchang I like to take. This mustang who was a little bit ahead of me sees me and starts to race me. Anyway, his car was pretty loud. He was definitely on the the gas pedal. For some reason I passed him easily going about 90 mph in 4th gear. I could hear his car from far away, and he was still falling behind when I was 3 car lengths ahead of him.

Maybe he was just a bad driver?! I always thought 'stangs were fast?

No unless they are quite modded they are turds. Or if it is a newer Cobra. The GT stock V8 puts out a whooping 225HP. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but last I check thats what it was.

V6 mustags aren't anything to gloat over, but the GT's give us a run for our money. If it was a GT, congrats!

I chased after one recently after the guy cut me off. He tried to ditch me from a light and I stayed glued to his back bumper until he realized that he was going 90 in a 55. His buddy kept looking back to see what I was driving.

The older cobras were rated near 320HP but, the new one is rated close to 390HP. Your only chance against them is if they loose traction.

If higher MPH they are known for not being as agile and quick. But never mess with one of those newer Cobras. That's an asswhoppin waiting to happen

Is that the new Cobra Type-R? The one with VTEC? I hear that you can activate it by double tapping the gas peddle.

The new Cobra's are fast as hell. 4.6 liter, twin cam, supercharged 390 horse.

Which i've heard is a conservative rating, since some guys have dynoed them and gotten 400 at the wheels, their rated 390 at the flywheel...so if their if putting down that kind of power at the rear wheels...their well over the 390 horse rating.

Throw a smaller pulley on the supercharger, chip, high flow exhaust...You have 500+ horse power

I agree 100%. Slow or not, the Audi interior is enough to make me happy.

I'm thinking of getting a new car and my wife suggested a WRX. I laughed at the though of it. I'd rather keep my 98 A4 than get a 2004 WRX.

I was running against a cobra at a recent track day. My TT had him in the corners, but he got me in the straights. It was modded and running track tires, so I was happy with my results.

Stock Mustangs are hella slow. And they all weigh as much as the earth. A GT will put up a close fight with a 2.8, depends on driver. A Cobra is bit faster than the 2.8. After that, you shouldn't even consider it, the Cobra R is a freaking monster.

I killed 2 stangs tonight on the way back from new port beach at the same time. I was stuck next to a fixed up black mustang in city traffic for a good 6 miles while he was blasting Linkin park and his blonde GF was in the passanger seat. Once we got on the freeway he had an open lane and gunned it, I just got behind him and rode his ass the whole time until he decided to merge over and I blew by him. Just as I was losing him I blew by a mustang bullit that joined us. indeed they are slow.

On another note, I was handed my ass about 8 to 10 times on PCH by a brand spankin new black viper with a plate that read 'myfast1' and his chick in the car. I didn't mind, we kept talking light to light. At the end what sucks was he was on my left hand side and about 6 carlengths behind me, and had to make a right at the next light. Instead of crossing over behind me he felt the need to fly by me at about 110 and cross over. Now I normally wouldn't mind, but I heard about 6 pebbles hit the front end of my car from his fatty rear tires, I'm too scared to look for chips. oh well.

a new mustanng will smoke any of us 1.8t with a chip. they push 260 hp. prior to 2000 if, (i think was the body change) it was 225hp. We really could only compete with the 225. If they have the v6 stang, its another story, but the GT's hold true. 0-60 in 6.7 prior to 2000. Thats about the same as a chipped a4 1.8

    Anyone familiar with Roush Mustangs?

Those things are supposed to pimp slap the Cobra, I talked to a guy once at a party that had one, he had all this trick stuff under the hood so he wouldn't even pop it. But I guess he spanks Supras all the time.

You've never heard of Roush? ... Well, I'm no mustang guy... but Roush is probably the most touted 'Stang tuner around... FYI

And to put my word in.... Stang's seem to be a love 'em or hate'em kinda car... but the same way we can chip our cars and put a turbo the size of our heads on there.... its easy to forget that there are Stroker kits out there for these babies for less then $2000... And as we all know...

Roush is a mediocre mustang tuner at best he produces overpriced underpowered mustang... you want a mean mustang you talk to steve saleen... S351-SC with "495 hp" does a 12.2 on street tires and burns out to redline in every gear, car and driver said the car would easily runs 9 or 10's on slicks.... most people dont think its that fast cause in the comparos its only .2 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile than the s-281sc what people dont know is that the s281 gets traction on street tires the S351 does not.

Well is seems you've done your Mustang research, though to clarify, I wrote "I'm no mustang guy" at the start of what I said, essentially denoting that I may be wrong.

However, I do contend that Roush is a "mediocre" tuner... The mustangs I have heard about that he tunes are ranging ain about 380-450 horsepower. I have no idea what kinda 1/4 times these would make, but I do know that if that is "mediocre" then I would absolutely love to see the engine bay of that turbo-4 you've got because my 5000 will never see those numbers. Not that there's anything wrong with Saleen, they're great too, no doubt here.

And by the way, I'd love to see a Saleen matched up around a track with Martin, Kenseth, or Busch's "mediocrely" tuned Roush-rides... Though, I know that's taking it a bit to the extreme.
