    Angry Interior Peeling Off

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is anyone elses center console, radio ruber or window switch trime rubbing off?

I have a 03. the soft rubber feel of the center console, radio nobs and door panels is peeling up or rubbing off . you can see the cheap shine of the hard black plastic under it.

I'm easy on the car I don't use harsh chemicals on the interior.
I've had Hondas, Jeeps, Rovers, and Bmrs and not a one have had this problem after a year . the dealer gives me the dumb look and answer. "Thanks Anchor Audi"

Any suggestions? If anyone from AOA reads the forums you need to fix this.

My window switches peeled and were fixed under warranty. Center console, not so lucky. Same peel, but the dealer didn't want to fix it under warranty. Go back to the dealership and bitch. Remember, all parts are covered for the first 4 years/50k miles (except for tires), so that includes your interior pieces.

Call AoA if you have to. Not that they ever do much, but this way the problem is logged. When the problem becomes worse, you can go back to them and take them to small claim court if you have to.

I have that problem too. The plastic on the center console is peeling off. My dealer wouldnt fix it under the warranty either.

    Hey,

I just bought my brand new car about 3 days ago, and I just noticed that the rubbery plastic cover on my ESP button is already chipping off. What the he**. I thought Audi were known for their "exquisite" tactile interiors. I'm gonna go to my dealer soon about this problem. It must have been like this before I even picked up the car as I haven't touched that button yet.

Otherwise, I'm still very happy with the car! Couldn't complain about anything else!

BTW, can the dealer just replace the ESP button, or is it center console/radio/cup holder/card holder all one piece?

Thanks for the reply! That's great, I didn't want to go into the dealership asking for an entire center dash.

Actually, a few days ago I noticed the plastic ring at the top of my shift knob is flaking. One of those things that catch your skin funny and you feel it every time you shift 1-3-5. I can only assume its from my ring though because it sits right on the shifter when my hand is around it.

we should maybe get some sort of a list going with who has what peeling, and what your dealership won't cover, and we can start a letter writing campaign. Never know, it might work.

My center console and window buttons had begun to peel last year and they were covered under warranty. I believe that AoA change the policy on new 2004s. I believe the interior trim is only covered for the first year/12k miles now. I believe that 2002-2003 models are covered for the first two years/24k miles.

interior wear and tear in only covered by AoA for the first year of ownership . . . I ran into this problem as well. If your dealer is cool enough, they might fix it though.

not that I know of. I was originally under the impression that 4years/50k covered everything; I was extremely disappointed with AoA when I ran into this problem. I called the national headquaters and got the same response.

my problem is a bit worst then most . . . seats cracked at 25k miles. They ordered the part and initially where going to replace the seat cover under warranty. When they placed the warranty service in with AoA a red flag went up . . . the deal was if I wanted a new seat I had to pay for it.

one year for all interior parts except seat stitching. theoretically I could rip the stitches out and they would replace the seat. go figure . . .

I've used Vinylex since day one on my leatherette and I still had the same problems. Tears in my seat, peeling interior. When I asked the Audi rep (who came out and had to approve the repair) if its not going to be covered under warranty, what could I have done to prevent this problem. My service advisor recommended that I use Vinlyex to clean and condition the leatherette. I did this monthly up until the point where I brought in for service. Obviously it didn't help. At that point, the Audi rep approved the repair. Even though the Audi rep approved the repair, I think my dealership ended up eating the cost as they might not have gotten the warranty reimbursed.

Another good time to bring up this point... don't make enemies with your local Audi dealership and befriend your service advisor. Ultimately, he/she will be the one who will go to bat for you for any potential warranty issues.

My car is completly covered for 50 thousand miles under Audi's warranty. Every item I have complained about has been replaced free of charge, with a free loaner car when my service is done. sometimes you may have to wait for parts to come in, but Audi still as the best warranty in the automobile business according to J D Powers.

you are lucky in this regard.

interior peeling, seats cracking . . . they all should be covered under the 50k/4y warranty.

but they aren't, which isn't cool at all

    same problem here.

My headunit area is peeling like crazy now. i spoke with the service department several months ago. Basically, they told me "the lotion or chemicals on my hand is causing the paint."
also, they said the cupholder, poorly positioned right over the headunit, may have spilt liquid onto the peeling paint area.

as far as what they have fixed under warranty:
the poorly misplaced cupholder due to a broken hinge thingy.
