Ok guys, I have been on this site non-stop researching about my newly bought car. I have read many articles favoring different turbo setups over one another. With our stock ko3, what can you do to draw every ounce of power out of this baby? I have read you can get close to 250hp out of a ko3? What modifications would I have to do to make over 200whp? Without going ko4, gt28, t-28...Any comments would help considering I am new in this Audi game. Oh and also, can you boost control Audi's, using, EBC's and MBC's? Because some of these psi levels sound way too high for a chip upgrade? I know im asking a lot, thanks everyone once again!

250 hp, I find that very hard to believe without major distruction. That little thing can only push soooo much air before bye-bye.

Getting up to 215 CRANK hp (which is about 160whp on a Quattro) out of the K03 is about as much as you get get, and still maintain some reliability.

The K03 just gets too hot to boost high, and the high rpms that it spins at make it unstable if you boost in the high teens. It's happiest around 14psi.

But, later B5 A4 models have a slightly different "sport" K03, which I think is found in the 2001 models. That can handle slightly higher boost and is said to make a bit more power at the higher limits.

On a stock A4 I would not suggest a boost controller, first get a chip (ups boost and timing, +45hp and about 45lb/ft torque). Once chipped you can run a boost controller but don't expect much from it, the new software will put boost up into the mid-high teens, spiking around (15-18psi) and holding around 10psi. Thats basically the limit of the turbo, so turning boost up much further past that will do more damage than good.

The J31 software has to do with the k04, not the K03. It's a version of the giac k04 software that runs slightly higher boost and requires larger injectors and a fmic IIRC, compared to the k31 version which puts out a little less boost but does not require anything additional. the j31 software has been know to be a little notchy, but some people claim that they get a noticible amount of more power from it.

J31 is also only for Model Year 2000...he's got a 97 so J31 is not even a option for him.
