Straight to Big Turbo or Chip first?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello All,

You may have remembered my question several days back about choosing between a Dolphin gray or Crimson red A4. Anyways, I ended up with the sweet and unique Crimson. Nobody replied to my last post in that thread about my actual purchase of the car.

Anyways, now that I'm through my break in period (and a bit more), I'm looking to upgrade the power a bit.

    1. If I ever plan to upgrade my turbo, should I just buy it now and get everything done at one time including the chip? ie. E05 or K04 from Eurocode or should I just try the regular chip from REVO first and pay a second time like after winter to reflash the ECU again ($$$) with the big turbo software?

    2. If you think I should just start with the software, I could also get the APR stage 1+ w/ injectors instead. Which one REVO or APR 1+?

I'd start with a chip and then add more power if you need it! The chip will get your car to move as it should have from the factory.

I have Revo and I love it, you could do as you said and get Revo. If you want to upgrade your turbo, Revo can be modified for it.

    Hope it helped

I was in the same boat and went REVO. I thought I'd want a full turbo set up soon, and decided to hold off and do the chip first. They will charge you a minimal amount for a software upgrade down the road, but its not a big deal.

I'm glad I did software only, because I realize now that I do not want to throw any more money into my new car, and just wait to pick up a certified S4 in a year or two. The 1.8t is fun, but I miss having an S, and the new one is sick :)

I'd also look into getting a GIAC flash since they will be introducing a full line of big turbos through awe withing the next two months. cheers! Mike

You're not holding out on us are you Have you heard any of the specifics? I am under the impression we may have a gt28r with stock manifold and a gt28rs full set-up to choose from. That would be nice. cheers! Mike

See if you can find someone local who has a chipped A4 and get a ride in their car and see if it's fast enough for you. If you know you are gonna end up going bigger turbo then go for it....or chip now to hold you over til more kits come out.

    Hey all,

Thanks for all the help. I took your guys' advice and decided to just REVO the car and see how that feels to start. Well luckily when I went today they were able to squeeze me in.

The software is great. It supposedly pushes my car to 215hp and 245tq fly. The car certainly pulls much stronger. The turbo spool is much more noticeable. The power is delivered right around 2500 rpm and pulls hard to about 5000, then tapers off a bit into redline.

I actually was expecting more of a change. 80ft/lbs of additional torque sounds a lot more than it really is. (Well maybe the car is just so smooth and quiet that it's hard to notice).

    Anyways, I wouldn't go back. It's great!

    See you guys around!

I agree with you 100%. Chip in my S4 made such a large dif, I thought A4 would be similar.

With that much gain in chip alone for 1.8t, while making the car quicker, certainly didnt make it fast. I don't understand how people can 'feel' a difference with some of the other mods such as exhaust, hoses, etc...

Well let me tell you I've felt a difference with certain mods. Wheels can make a huge difference in way car drives.
Exhaust I could feel the difference in high end, the car feels more willing when opening up on highway. But nothing night and day.
