My back is starting to kill me on long drives. Anyone else have this problem? The Audi doesn't seem to have alot of lumbar support. So I saw this:

I don't want this big apparatus on my seat making me look like an old man. This one seems simple enough.

My quattro came with lumbar support that can electronically adjusted for driverside and passanger side, Isn't that standard on the Quattro?

I guess not... my seat is entirely manual and no lumbar support. It's an '00 Quattro Sport.

I have Quattro, and I don't have anything power about my seats, they're all manual.

I hate my seats, they're so uncomfortable. My lower back kills after long trips.

    NO!!!

Although now I am doubting myself. I'm 99% sure there is no additional knob. Maybe it's an option, like heated seats. I don't have heated seats, do you? What year?

The A4's with sport seats have the manual roller for the lumbar adjustment. For the non-sport seats, lumbar wasn't available until 2001, but those have power lumbar, no dial.

I have heated leatherette seats, no lumbar, and the rest is all manual adjustment. Very lame.

The sport seats and sports steering wheel were separate options in your model year. You have the sport seats which is why you have lumbar support.

Lucky you got heated though...my bro has a 98 without the cold weather package but has the sport seats. He wishes he has heated like mine (but mine are non-sport).

New Dimensions (VW, Audi now Jap stuff too) used to carry an inflatable lumbar support. Cost $20 and had a bulb you hand pumped and a valve to release the air. They might still have them. I have two, one from my truck I sold (going in Audi later on) and another I have in my GTI. Works great!

hmm. I have a 99.5 with sport cloth heated seats.
They are manual seats, but they have electric lumbar adjustment. It's not a very big button, maybe you missed it?

BTW I hate electric seats! Waste of time/space/weight! How often do you adjust your seat? But then I don't like electric windows either...I'm eccentric I guess :P

My 2001 non-sport pleather manual seats are heated and have electric lumbar support (little button) and my 2000 cloth sport manual seats are heated and have manual lumbar support (big round knob). The sport seats are more comfortable regardless. I had to get the sport seats because the base seats were so uncomfortable. But if you can't go that route then I agree with nizmosx. You should take care of your back however you can. Stomach and back exercises will also help a lot if you do them regularly.

When were the cars made? I'm guessing they both had build dates close to the end of the year. I think my 99.5 was built in June (going off what I can remember) but I don't have the lumbar. Maybe the lumbar became standard in 2000 now that I think of it. I just wish I had the support. I think the lumbar in the stock non-sport seats lack any kind of support.

Mine's the same. I find the lumbar too high up when activated. If it was a little lower, I'd probably use it more... do you guys like the lumbar placement?

I have had the same problems with my seats as well. I was sure it was just me because of my past broken back. I have a 2000 A4 Avant w/ the sport package and pleather interior, but no lumbar adjustment.

I've always been on the lookout for something that can ad some back support but always hated how big those lumber cushions were. I found something today at Target that seems to work pretty well. It's one of those blow-up travel pillows... you know, the u-shaped kind that fit around your neck so that your head can rest while you sit upright. Anyway, if you ad just a little bit of air to this thing, it fits very nicely behind your back. The nice part about it is that it's adjustable, unlike those lumbar pillows that are so huge... not to mention it was only $5.95 and comes with a small case.
