Puting in 4.3 quarts in would seem to be overfilling, which is bad. I thought all 1.8 B5 models were 3.7 quarts, including filter change. I was not aware it changed anywhere along the lines.

Interesting. According to the Bentley, it's 3.7 quarts for 1997-2001s.

I wonder where that extra oil goes?

Just checked chiltons and they agree with the manual 4.3 quarts(4.0 litres) Maybe the bently manual is giving a system capacity and not including the capacity of the filter. Any you can always trust the dipstick.

Now you have me concerned. But why would Audi publish the wrong amount? I can understand the chilton manual being wrong but not the owners manual.

Well that was fun. Just got done draining about .5 quart of oil from my car; ran it and checked it and yes 3.7 appears to be right.

    That must have been messy.

Capacity might be higher if you decide to use the new larger oil filters on your 1.8T.

It's not that they were wrong. That is the exact amount of oil that the 1.8t holds. The thing is all off it doesn't drain when you change it...even when changing the filteras well. This is where the lower amount is needed for oil changes.
