Questions I should have asked beofre I bought an a4

What are the average cost for labor and parts for the following services? Assuming you go to a good shop that isnt the dealership and you are not purchasing performance parts, or if you are specify which ones.

new clutch
replace timimg belt
replace turbo
replace exhaust

timing belt: ~700 if you have it done. if you are mechanically inclined and DIY ~300 in parts.

clutch: got mine installed for 350 (labor) +cost of the clutch

turbo and exhaust: well thems moddin words right their son. it all depends on what you want to do with it.

Thats a loaded question. All of those jobs can be done very easily and cheap if you want to do it yourself. The fact is there are a lot of aftermarket kits available for the A4.

As far as labor goes all of those jobs require about 6 hours (maybe less for the timing belt) but you can save money buy having two done at a time. So in other words buy an after market turbo upgrade like a K04 and have the shop install it with your new exhaust and clutch since they have to take the exhaust off any way. While they are at it have em do the belt. Most of the time is spent on disassembly and reassembly any way so the added cost is relatively small.

do everything yourself but the clutch. its easy the clutch is not hard its just time consuming and not the most fun on jack stands.

My OEM clutch kit w. new master and slave cyl was 1100 unstalled.

Timing belt was 700$, i had the APR snub mount installed with it...

Turbo is 4 hours of labor. Mine was installed for 220$

Exhaust is about an hour...


all depends on hourly charge rates.

European Auto Werks is 55$ an hour...

Thanks for the replys, they are making me feel better. The more I think to myself with out consulting other people the more expensive things get in my mind. I was starting to think that I had gotten in over my head.

You own a reliable car. The belt needs to be replaced before 65K. Other than that there really aren't any major problems with the A4.

As far as I know, no. I bought it used from a dealership with financing. The financing and clear carfax together has lead me to assume that this car does not have an unusual history.

My car was crashed (has Crash Data) but comes up with a clear CarFax report... beware..

Full insurance and warranty helps.
I don't have either and it's expensive, especially coming from an Acura Integra to a german car.
