Real quick...last week hydolocked the wife's Passat in one of Tampa mini pools that spring up everytime it rains.

Insurance approved the Dealer estimate of $3600 to replace all four rods and bearings. Only one rod was bent, but dealer said kit comes with four, so why not replace all four.

Mechaninc tore down the engine and was getting ready to install everything today. Upon closer inspection he noticed that a "oil injector" was missing from cylinder #2. After looking closer agian he noticed a nickel sized hole where that injector was supposed to be.

With that said, Dealer is now replacing the short block!!! Insurance approved the estimate for $3500. Block only costs $1600, but there's a core charge since the old one can't be used.

So, everything in the engine is begin replaced except for the head. Pretty scary what a little water will do.

What do you guys think this will do to the life of the engine. Dealer said it should prolong it because I'm getting new parts installed, hell almost a new engine. I'm thinking it will never be the same. No dealer can recreate the specs and workmanship of how the engines are put together in Germany.
