You don't need to lower the car but it will look a bit funny with 18's and stock suspension.
And DO NOT use lowering springs. They will handle worse than the stock springs and will destroy your shocks guarenteed.
Get a set of coilovers or both shocks and springs.
Drowning is my third favorite way to die.

Which is the better option--coilovers or shocks and springs? I like the stock ride but I haven't ridden in an S4 with a different setup so I really can't compare.

Will 18s exaggerate the gap in the front? Is that what you mean by looking funny?

i say get suspensions done before u get wheels...

if your S4 is mostly daily driven, get shocks and springs.
IF you plan to track ur car get a nice set of coilovers.

I would suggest goin with the koni/vogtland setup....it is by far a better combo than going with the h&r/bilstein setup

18's on a stock S4 is not bad at all. But after seeing any lowered Audi's in your area, that gap will seem to grow bigger and bigger everyday. I don't have an S4. I drive an A4 2.8, which is close in weight to the S4, and I highly recommend the H&R/Bilstein setup.
Not to mention I drove an S4 with the setup and it's phenomenal. Handles like a dream and rides very close to stock.

Here is a pic of my car with the stock sport suspension(comparable to stock S4 suspension).

interesting....you didn't find the h&r setup to be floaty over dips in the road? that was my biggest complaint with that setup and reason why i moved to the vogtland/koni setup.

If your car has the "sport suspension" package from the factory you it already has lowered springs. The one's they use are exactly the same as the Eibach lowering springs. (refer to the June issue *I think* of EuroTuner, they have a full write up on it.) All you have to do is change the shocks/struts and can do the whole job for less than $350.

That's good to know. I might be able to do wheels and suspension after all.

I heard vogtlands don't lower very much. Any pics of your ride height.

Delta00--What in particular was wrong? The ride? The look?

Anyone--I have 19's on my S4 and am trying to figure out what suspension to go for. With lower profile these tires are supposed to have same outside diameter as my old 17's, but with stock suspension, my front 19's rub when I'm turning and the springs are compressed (I'm either braking or I hit a bump in the corner).

Will a sports suspension make this worse?

yes it will ... time to roll the fenders or cut the fender lining

how exspensive is this? I hope to run 19s on a fairly low setup, so as long as its not too much Id be interested in doing it.

Shouldn't be too hard of a job. Just take it to a professional. I could get messy if you try to do it and mess up the paint.
There's a special tool that they use to roll the fenders which does it correctly.
Just watch yourself with the setup.
