    ecu shipping question

just a quick question about a used ECU...I'm getting one from angryswede (should be here in a day or two). I'm sending him back my stock one, then I have to drive down to school about ten days from now.

my question is, is there anything I need to check, as far as loose solders or anything that happened during shipping? I've heard stories of ECU's stopping the car dead on the highway, and that's the last thing I need on my way to school (another 600 miles from here).

What ECU is he sending? I'm assuming it is chipped. GIAC?

Nothing to check with APR everything is soldered. If it was GIAC the chip could work it's way loose from the socket.

ok, you don't think there's any chance something could come loose due to rough handling during shipping?

otherwise, that's good to know, thanks.

As long as APR did a good job soldering the chip you shouldn't have any issues. It's not gonna get bumped around any more than it would with it being in your car.

I believe all GIAC socketed chips are locked in the the socket. You have to move a plastic collar fwd to undo the chip from the socket. At least that's how my GIAC is in my '98 1.8t.
Shipped two ECU's so far. Just wrap them up real good in bubble wrap and in a tight fitting box and you should be just fine. Always insure it just incase!

I bought a used MTM chip/ecu for my 2000 tq. My car quit the first time out and wouldn't start. A quick call to Hoppen Motorsports fixed it. The chip had come part way out of the socket on one side in transit. Pushed it back down with a finger and everything has been fine ever since. So..... if your chip isn't soldered or locked in somehow it could happen. But it was really minor. Good luck.

it's APR, so it's soldered. hopefully it should be ok...as long as nothing happens on the drive down, it's all good. when I'm at school, I'm close to APR anyway...

Yes and no the chip it's self gets locked to the encripter with plastic collar that you have to click sideways to release...but the encripter just slides onto some pins that are soldered to the board that has been know to become loose.

At least that's the way my GIAC is and from what I've seen on my buddy's MTM it's the same as GIAC.
