We can get a 2.8 VR6 and a 1.8T GTI in the States. There are many variations of them too. You have the 337, the 20th AE, etc. They are all 2 doors though. No factory 4 door GTIs over here. Of course, then you have the R32 that is officially a Golf, and not a GTI. Go figure...

How 'bout you? Can you not get a 2.8VR6 GTI in the UK?

Oh yeah, and I run one w/ my screen name too:

Mike, we get two versions of the GTi - the 1.8T and the 1.9TDi. They are boh 150bhp standard. The 1.9 motor is a performance version of the standard Tdi lump and chips to 200bhp and still does 50MPG. We also get the 337 and 20th anniversary editions.

2.8's here are not called a GTi, they are called a 'V6 4motion'. They have always been 4WD, they have been around since 1998 I think.

Hmm, interesting. The only 4 Motion we get is w/ the R32. All the other Mk4s are fwd. That was my main reason for going w/ my Audi. I had a 2000 GTI 1.8T before my Avant. I wanted the 1.8T, and I wanted awd. So the logical choice was an A4. I've always been a fan of a hatchback, so the Avant fit the bill nicely!

Also keep in mind there are different variations.

You were able to get a Golf 2.8 VR6 and a Golf 1.8T mk4 without all the bells and whistles of the GTI mk4 for several months in 1999 IIRC.
The Golf current engine variations are...
    2.0L 8v
    1.9TDI

    R32

The GTI current engine variations are...
    1.8T
    2.8

The Golf 4 door was never offered w/ a VR6 though, was it? I have never seen any (that haven't been converted over to a VR6).

Yep, that's what I was thinking. They also offered a 2. slow in early '99 too, didn't they? (yeah, I know - what were they thinking?!?!?!)

Wow, you boys know your Golfs. Good to see. Although over in Europe I believe it's a 25th Anniversary, and here it's the 20th (since they haven't been out over here in the States as long).

Tuning possibilities are endless, on the 2 liter!? What are you smoking!? Best way to tune the 2 liter is to rip it out and throw in a 1.8T. Or dump the car for a new one.

But yes, it is a fairly tough little engine. It's no VR6, but still...

SC or TC, yes. But you can only squeeze so much power out of the 2.0. All I'm saying, is the tuning possibilities are not endless. There are other motors I'd rather start off with as my base.

OK, sorry I've taken this one off track.

    Back on topic!
