    Question Tint Faq

I'm probably getting tinted this weekend... so whats the pros and cons fo the different types of tint.. metallic, ceramic, traditional? How about price differences. My main reason for tint is heat dissapation and appearance. I don't like the "silver" or the brown tint too much. Just black.

Are there color differences? Cellphone interference? Whats the best for reducing cabin heat?

Metallic will mess up your radio.
Go with ceramic, won't interfere with radio, keeps it cool. Also you don't want a dyed tint, can fade over time.

Not much of a price difference, think it was 20 bucks more for ceramic but you won't have any issues.

Okay, did a bit of reasearch:

Ceramic tint has the highest heat and UV protection. YOu can have a lighter tint and have more protection than comparable metallic tints.

Ceramic tints take up to 30 days to fully cure. Metallic takes a week or so.

Metallic tints may interfere with your radio reception.

So what's the right tint percentage, where it's dark enough to get the look, but not too dark to be a problem. And what are you guys getting for price quotes?

A lot of the guys on BostonAudi.org got the llumar semi-metallic, and it seems to be the tint of choice.

At first I thought the title of this thread was "tint ***".

how does everyone think it would look with 15 o nthe backs on 25s on the fronts? my 'rents still pay insurance for my car so they have a say in what goes into it, they're beign gay about the legality of this so i figure if i make the backs darker than the frotns, i can just lie to them and tell them the frotns are 35 instead of 25. would this look good? any pics?

Damn, me too. It must be because I'm sleepy

BTW, how long has ceramic tint been on the market. To be honest, this is the first I've heard or read about it...

I don't care for dark windows. I also don't care for the 'silver' look either. Of course, tint is a matter of personal taste though.

Ceramic tints have been around for a year or so, maybe more. I have it on my ride and am extremely happy with it.

If you have the choice between ceramic and metallic I would go with the ceramic. It is becoming more popular because it doesn't interfere with any electronics in the car, and with our radio antenna in the back window you could lose reception with the metallic.

DPiddy, I wouldn't go too dark, especially if you have a dark interior. That helps to make it look darker. I actually went with 35 all around and it looks really good.

I went with 20% all around. I have already been to court about it and lost. But I still don't agree with the verdict and I'm not rich enough to appeal it.

However, it is STILL on my car. Eventually, I'm going to go to the eye doctors and get an excuse for tinted windows so if I ever get pulled over in the future.

20% isn't too dark. I got pulled over at 10PM at night so 50% would look dark to them.

I had a friend take my car to his friends shop. He charged me $200.
