problem. going out of town and my check engine light just came on. i tried to contact a few nearby dealerships to remedy the problem, but none have an opening before my leave date. after talking to one service department, i was informed that it was only an emissions warning--nothing to worry about. if this is true, then i can wait and get it taken care of during my trip.
only the check engine light is on, nothing else, and it just today came on. any expert opinions?

I am certainly not an expert, but that is my understanding of the check engine light. You should get an OK massage on the main computer when you start the car.

yes, the "OK" is present, i didnt even think to look for it. thanks. i had my friend VAG it and the no 1 oxygen sensor came up faulty. so i have to get it fixed, but cant until a week and a half from now secondary to full schedule. i was told this is "no big deal"--but its not their car its mine. at least its covered under the warranty-- cert-preowned. thanks for the input, if anyone else has info about no1 O2 sensor, please let me know.

    boys, boys -
check your MAF sensor. there's a grand history of the infamous MAF on aw. if it's solid - it's an emissions thing. when they flash - then be excited.
