Where is the Fuel Pump Relay? UPDATED PLEASE HELP

I can't tell where the fuel pump relay is. I've looked at the bentley manual and it says in the foot well. I've searched and is says where your knees hit under the dash.

Does anyone have a picture of where it is located? Or at least clarify it for me. Thanks.

I'm not exactly sure, but this may help. I believe it's relay number 4. This is what it looks like when you drop down the knee bolster. Note that it's someone else's pic poster, and it's for an A8, but it gives you the basic idea.

Thanks for the link to the pictures. In the bentley manual it says it is relay # 6? When I did a seach, someone else also said it was relay #4? When I get home tonight, I'll have to compare part numbers with the new relay I bought today.

    Thanks for the help.

I think they're in different spots depending on what model you have.

Good luck. Try to post the results when you figure it out for future reference.

So I put in the new relay and no go. The relay I swaped was the one that says 372 upside down.

    and

Also, when I turn the key on, I can feel the relay click (both old and new relay). What else should I check? Would running a jumper work to bypass the relay (just to trouble shoot)?

Do you have a VAG-com? Or access to one? I'm pretty sure there's an Output test you can run.

Go to 03 Output Diagnostic Mode, press enter.

The fuel pump relay will trigger the pump to cycle, then the ICV will cycle. It will continue cycling till you move on to the next test, which is the intake manifold changeover valve test. Then the EVAP valve, then the EGR valve test.

You should wait at least 20 seconds before running this test again.

What symptoms are you having? I think there's also a fuse you may want to check. On AW someone said it was one of these: fuses 28, 29, and 34.

I have VAG-COM and I ran the output tests. The fuel pump does not turn on. I don't hear anything coming from the fuel injectors. I also didn't have any DTC codes. I had this same problem a month ago (with all the same symptoms) and the dealer replaced the relay then. I just figured the relay went bad again.

The bentley manual did say to check fuses 28,29, and 34. All looked good.

I also tried running a jumper instead of the relay and that didn't work either. Maybe it is my fuel pump. I have idea what else it could be. Looks like my car will be on the flat bed tomorrow.

UPDATE: I finally got it started. One of the wires going into the relay harness was loose. I plugged it back in and secured it with a zip tie.

Thanks for the update. Most people that have those problems get them fixed and then never post again.

Glad to hear you got it worked out, hopefully your post will help out someone else someday.

Yeah, that was the thought of the update. I had to trouble shoot this my self. When I did the search nothing ever showed up saying to check the wiring on the harness. Hopefully someone will benefit from this.

How do you take off the access panel to get to the relays?

I'd rather find out here before I try myself and break something.
