    Thumbs up Eurocode FMIC installed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I finally got my Eurocode FMIC installed last Saturday @ Eurocode. BIG THANKS to Dave@Eurocode who made really nice job and helped me with other things. You're a great guy!

After the installation we went for a test drive, and oh man the car felt totally different. During our test drive, the outside temperature was about 80'F but the turbo didn't get heat soaked at all and the car felt great on all RPMs.

Yesterday back at San Diego, I was driving around even hotter temperature and the car still felt totally different.

If you can afford this, I highly recommend it to be your next mod .

And what comes to the UltraSport bumber cutting, that was really minor (see the pic below).

    Here're the pics:

    Just some observations.
The end tanks are square. Is that a prototype? End tanks should never be rectangular.

Are the pipes chromed or just really well polished? Are they aluminum?

I found it on the site but no pictures or even a place to check if you want the polished option.

I'm referring to the end tanks, not the core. The core will always be rectangular.

Just for example, here's what a better end tank would look like.

Ya, but that one's ugly And all that coolant is going to mix anyway right? Regardless, it's a heck of an improvement over the dinky stock smic.

Gotta tell you this. As soon as I drove home last week with my newly installed system and opened my hood, a friend ran over from his house and was in my driveway as soon as I turned off the key. "He said, let's see it." I opened the hood and there it was staring us both right in the face, that beauty of a shiny pipe with that nice pretty blue coupling. Made us both drool. Gotta love it.

Sure it will mix, but it's like having a kink in your tubes. Lots of turbulence and a decrease in airflow... Not ideal at all. That's why all your tubes should be curved and not bent. Same thing. If this is ecodetuning's production FMIC its disappointing unless you can open it up or confirm that the airflow is not forced into the tube that goes to the manifold the way it appears. It should be rounded.

Look at this Greddy on a VW:

I'd call David and confirm how the air is delivered from the end tanks to the core of the FMIC.

square end-tanks aren't ideal, they never are. But considering how poorly the stock SMIC works the ECode unit is a good upgrade for the money. Like mike said square end-tanks don't provide proper distribution of air flow and can cause vorticies within the end tanks slowing flow which can result in lag or pressure drop in some cases. But again this is ideal design for this application the core is so much more efficient than stock that it doesn't matter to most people. For those of you who are thinking of purchasing the unit, opt out on the polished pipes/fmic unless you're more into the show than go.

ecodetuning doesnt even have it on their website. Are they not updating it?

Jeeze.. all they had to do was round it out. Yeah it's better than stock, but still.

if the end tanks and the pipes are not polished does that mean they arent made out of metal? or are they still made out of metal but just dont have that shiny finish?

ive seen a lot of FMICs that have silicone or ruber hoses...i would think that metal would be better because it doesnt expand under boost...

The Ecode FMIC's end tanks and pipes are still aluminum, just optional shiny finish.
