winter performance with Toyo Proxes 4s?

Thinking about buying Toyo Proxy 4 ultra high performance all-season tires and putting them on my wheels instead of buying winder rims/tires. How do these kind of tires handle in show? Anyone ever use them? The size would be the same as my S03s 225/40/18. Also, how much summer performance would I be sacrificing?

I have them, but I have not run them in the snow, and don't plan on it. I just got them this past May. But they are very good in the rain. I have had no probs at all with them and they seem to be holding up very well.....

I'd get smaller winter whels/tires but I have a problem. With anything smaller then 18 I won't make it up the driveway as the car will be too low. Right now thre is a 1/2" gat when I get off the driveway ricer style!.........and thats without any snow or ice.

smaller wheels should make no difference in ride height. drivin on 18s in the winter's craziness in my book. buy cheap 16s, get winter specific tires, use yur quattro and yu'll be fiinneee. my driveway sux a lot and i have no problems at all with 16s, tire diameter should be the same

with 16s or 17s the car will sit a lot lower with race suspension! With 16s it will drop over 1" which I don't have

As long as you have the correct size tire 16's should be the same height & diameter.

There is no way they will be the same diameter on the car as th tires will compress more. I've done it and know for sure. The outer diameter of the wheel/tire will be the same off the car.

I guess I could see that...never thought about sidewall flex.

just put more air in and there shoudn't be an issue with ride height. i guess it would be a tad but lower, but it shouldn't be an inch drop. but i guess u would know better than me, so it's yur choice. personally, i'd spring for full snows, that way u pay for 4 tires, instead of a new car should u crash in the snow

Not so sure it's completely due to the sidewall flex, but the difference in wheel sizes makes a difference in the overall diameter, even when going with a taller sidewall. For instance, a 235/35/19 tire is taller than a 225/45/17. I run 19's and when they're standing next to my spare S4 wheel, the diameter is a lot longer, on and off the car.

Plus, when I run my autoX setup, my 205/55/16s make my car sit a LOT lower than with the 19's on.
