Has anyone seen Boykin custom turbo set ups??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have contacted them and they say that they could do a full street/track set up on a 2.8. Here the email they sent me:

For a reliable full-time track setup, you'll have to do a stage III on
the 2.8 Turbo System. In addition to the standard performance enhancing
hardware for a turbo system, Stage III includes:

    -TEC Stand Alone Engine Management
-Ported and Polished Heads with Enlarged Valves
    -Ported Intake Manifolds
    -Ceramic Coated Turbo Manifolds
    -Forged Pistons and Connecting Rods
    -Decreased Compression Ratio (9.0:1)
    -Blueprinted and Balanced Crankshaft
    -K03/K28 Turbochargers

The total power output after these modifications is around 400bhp. The
cost is around $12K for a street setup (350hp), and $15K for a full track
    setup (400hp).

Do you think its worth spending 12-15grand on this or should i just buy a 1.8?
OR should i opt for a single turbo?

I would love to do something with my 2.8. Since its a96 and isnt worth to sell it now so i might as well keep it and make a weekend track car out of it. Just need a lil more funds for that set up.

What do you think guys? Any though on this is welcome.

i would think getting a 1.8t or even save a few more bucks and get an s4. the 1.8t most expensive turbo setups will run you about 8 grand. 15k is a bit much imo. 12k even seems pushing it
    4 wheels
    2 headlights
    1 glovebox
    1 ac unit
    1 radio
    1 engine

you'd be nutz if you bought a 2.8 and dumped 15k to get it to 400hp. The car would roughly end up costing you 30k. Get an S4 for 20 and dump 10k into it......

I think it's hard to put a price on a turbo system just based on the peak horsepower available.

12-15k may be very reasonable for the output - especially considering that you're talking about taking a normally aspirated engine and boosting it.

If they are truly talking about a completely thought out system, that doesn't break down when pushed hard for a long time on the track - and reliably produces the same power when pushed hard...then that is a bargain

400hp is very respectable and if you buy an S4 it will cost you close to that amount to get to 400hp. That doesn't include the cost of selling your car then buying an S4 to start with.

You MIGHT get a 1.8t to that kind of power, but it will be an unrealiable, 1/4 miler - POS. Even with a FMIC, the car just isn't very driveable on a real track with turns. Unless you like whiplash on the straights and just coasting in the turns (which defeats the advantage of quattro on a track in the first place)

So yes, IF the system is good one...that seems fair.

Tell more about this system - ? Do they have a website? I've never heard of them.

For around $5 you could hook it up with a supercharger and push close to 300... that sounds a little more reasonable.

    Their website is BoykinRacing.us
The website is poorly designed so no use out of that.

Fastdreams I totaly get what your saying and thats why I contacted them. I've heard that they do very good job boosting NA engines. And like you said 1.8 is 1/4 mile engine set up, so that would work for me.

Also does anyone know what company uses 2.8 12V engines on their track cars??

That set up for 15 I believe is reasonable and even if it does brake they fix everything. Everything they do has a lifetime warranty. Dont ask I dont know if that true but it did say something like that on their web site. But anyway I'm not sure if I want to be the first one doing this.

Has anyone else done a twin turbo set up on their 2.8??

Maybe a race engine would be better? How much would that run me anyone know?

Anyone want to give me 10 more g's. :]

It's usually more expensive to fully build up an NA engine than to boost it.
Costs can add up fast and the power gains can be disappointing in comparison to boost.

Oh and if you have a 12v, I dont think there is anybody making a supercharger for that. Motodyne is a scam company so don't buy into that.

Also, if you have a 12v, run your idea by the guys in the 12v forum, on AW - somebody there must know about da turbo.

I'd guess that the Boykin setup uses stand-alone engine management.

ps. my last name is Boykin...kinda weird. That's why your post caught my attention. Maybe I can get a family hookup ;)

I think the username on "Audi Ryder" on AW is the guy behind Boykin Racing.

i strongly concur with that... i'd rather get an S4 and slap an APR stage 3 on it.

    hmm. Doesn't add up.

    sell A4 = +6,500
    buy s4 = -20,000
    buy stgIII = -6149
    stgIII install = -2,000
    400hp
    = -21,649

    vs.

    Keep A4 = +-0
    Turbo it = -15,000
    400hp
    = -15,000

just my opinion :) Twisted logic too :P

I like the S4's a lot, but if there is a legitmate turbo package for the 2.8, that could be interesting.
