What's the best way to clean and protect a 2014 S5 Cabrio top? First time owning a ragtop... Right now water just saturated the top (not to the interior, just doesn't repel well) / no water beading, etc.

sure thing if the top is relatively new I would use your car wash and use a nice brush like this one on top of it, gently brush, let dry and protect with Nanolex Convertible Top Sealant

Is there a preference on the Nanoskin sponge or wash mitt on which one works better/easier to use?

Hello, I am hoping you can help me with two questions:

    * I have a large raised spot on my Magma Fine Nappa leather seats, which is also a bit firmer/harder than the surrounding leather. Since it is about the shape and size of my daughter's backside, I anticipate it was caused by either her sweat after a cross country meet or something on the grass that she sat on at the meet. I have used Lexol leather conditioner on it with little to no effect (it did very slightly lessen the "clothing stitching" marks present around the border of the spot. Could you please advise how to get rid of the spot?

    * Can you please advise whether there is any way to determine whether a car has a nano coating/finish (i.e. Quartz Pro, etc.) on it? I purchased my car used from a dealership and want to properly maintain the finish, which is incredible. From what I read nano coatings need to be maintained differently from standard clear coat finishes.

    Your advice is appreciated. Thanks.

anybody know the best product to use on these wheels for protection? I think coating them might not be best due to the nature of material:

What do U mean by “the nature of the material”? Is this some kind of new material used for the wheels? If not & if it’s a standard Audi factory wheel, the normal “Wheel Sealants” would/should be more than adequate. Gyeon (purchased from DD & it works spectacularly) or some other type of sealant designed specifically for wheels d/t the temperatures that develop. Sonax also makes a spray on wheel sealant “Rim Shield” which also works pretty well but only for 4-6 weeks. After that needs to be re-applied. Check out DD videos regarding you question/topic, or YouTube works well for additional viewing. NO affiliation w/DD, just an excellent vendor/sponsor & tier 1 products, you can’t go wrong w/them.

Model #AP31037B, @ Home Depot. It’s a male/female Quick Connect coupler(s)for pressure washers. Important to get the couplers rated for the “Pressure Washers” & NOT the ones designed for a garden hose. U may want to just take the part(s) to the HD & attach the couplers to make sure they fit that way no worries. Additionally, U may want to think ~ getting a coupler for the bottom end of the PW gun, makes it easier to wind the hose up w/o the gun attached. If U have some different spray tips for the PW, the coupler makes it super easy/fast to switch b/w tips/devices. Depending on the type of PW (electric vs gas w/ > 3200 psi) PW could have a lot of PSI built up in the line so a good idea to release the pressure before trying to remove the hose, foam cannon or spray tips to avoid injury. I have a couple of foam cannons for my PW & the QD couplers make it MUCH easier. Also have QD (Quick Disconnect) for all of my garden hoses/sprayers. Hope this helps

It was an episode of Wheeler Dealers where they restored a Toyota Supra, near the last quarter of the show. You were prominently featured w/your printed names & business (Detailers Domain) briefly spoke of the uses in your business w/it & then they showed the guy from Chasing Classic Cars (Wayne ?) using/speaking ~ it as well, for ~ the same length of time.
If they told U they were never going to use U in the commercial, they were incorrect & maybe owe U a small amount of $. I haven’t seen it before or since, but it was only yesterday so who knows if it will appear again, but if it does I’ll be sure to let U know. I was rather pleased for you to say the least!

strange it's the same formula, but that's cool what are you looking for primarily on the dressing? shine, gloss, matte finish, interior or exterior use?

I use it on the exterior, mostly on the tires. I prefer a matte look that lasts a decent bit.

yes I would still use an ipa wipe down, you won't need an iron remover if the wheel is brand new in the box.

Hello! I’m gathering up the supplies to jump into detailing my first black car. It’s a 2018 Audi A4 in Mythos black. I got it about 3 weeks ago but the car has been in service for 6 months (it’s a CPO). The paint is by no means in perfect condition and has micro swirls and small scratches here and there that are only visible under certain lighting conditions. I’ve done a ton of research and scoured various sites to decide and choose all the supplies that I will need but the more I read the more indecisive I get on what I really need (car detailing world has a TON of product options). So my thought was to do the following:
    - wash and clay and then wash again. I have Meguiars gold class shampoo from my previous car. Will this work or do I need something special as part of the paint correction process?
    - Polish with Meguiars M205 and porter cable orbital polisher. Now this is where i get a little lost. For the large areas I was thinking on getting a 5” backing plate and use it with 5.5” pads, but for the tighter areas like front bumper - use a 3” backing plate with 3” pads. In regards to the pads- what would you recommend to use with Meguiars m205? My research leads me to think that I need orange light cutting pads for the M205. Do I need to follow with Meguiars microfiber polishing pads or can I just wipe down with microfiber towels? If I’m completely off on the pads, please recommend the proper ones.
    - next step would be to apply a 50/50 diy solution of alcohol and water. Is this safe?
    - final step would be to apply a diy ceramic coating. I’ve read about the CarPro cquarz product as being decent... any other better diy ceramic products that you would recommend?

That’s about it... I think :) am I missing any steps? Any product selection improvements I should make?

Long shot - several days ago I got “sand blasted” by micro dust debris ( at least that’s what it felt like) on highway which caused tiny pin/needle size indentations on my front bumper ( not all over but in some areas). Although it’s not too terrible but still ticks me off that it happened. Would polishing with porter cable help alleviate those? Will ceramic coating help minimize these or do I need to hurry up and put up a clear bra? Thanks in advance!

    Help!

I picked up a 2014 RS5 this weekend, and a LOT of the car has XPEL or similar. The first problem is the edges of the film are looking pretty cruddy/gunked, and the second is there is a scratch in one of the pieces of film. These two issues make me want to remove the clear wrap and get the "canvas" cleaned up. The non-wrapped areas seem to have only minor swirl marks, I believe the car has been quite well taken care of so I don't think any major paint correction needs to be done.

Historically, I've always kind of made up my own process from briefly watching videos and reading bottle instructions for wash/waxing my vehicles, and I've always been pretty happy with the results, but I've never taken the time to do it RIGHT.

Trying to keep things to a reasonable cost without leaving anything out, I need an "essentials" list (assume I have nothing but a power washer and buckets) to show the paint some proper love: towels? sponges? soap? clay bar? polish? wax? seal?

    Thanks!

Any suggestions or experience on the correct process to follow when cleaning Audi Diamond stitched leather seats? I have lexol cleaner and conditioner along with a horse hair brush from Chemical Guys that I was going to use. Saw a few videos on cleaning leather seats, however I'm scared to mess up the stitched diamond pattern areas. Any advice is appreciated!

we like to use the leather master kit to maintain these type of seats. the key is to use and apply product on applicators pads and towels first. massage the product into the pad so that it does not leave product on the stitching so much just enough where it doesnt get all over.

    Update:

Sonax Spray and Seal being used to maintain a ceramic coated vehicle.

Using Sonax Spray and Seal for maintenance on a coated Lamborghini Huracan

This Lamborghini Huracan was coated about 6 months ago with a ceramic coating, we wanted to test out the ability of the Sonax Spray and Seal and the effects of it over the coating. We are happy to report that it worked extremely well. Sonax Spray and Seal was compatible and showed no issues or side effects with the ceramic coating. We would recommend it as a maintenance product over your cars protected with ceramic coating.

What are the top soaps to use on a ceramic coating? Recently has my car coated with CS-II Titanium SH and all my old soaps are not allowed (CG Honeydew, Wash/Waxes etc).

Thinking CarPro Reset, Gyeon Bathe or Mequiars Hyper wash, thoughts on these or any other suggestions?

A couple questions, attempting to keep my baby in top shape:

The interior plastic trim pieces: I just noticed some scuffing / light scratches on my piano black interior trim in the bottom of the U shape of the trim around the center console (B8 A4/allroad center console). The shiny black between the cup holder and the MMI knob / buttons in picture 1. Is there a way to fill or smooth out the scuffing on plastic like that?

My steering wheel: I have an all air-leather steering wheel (in picture 1). What is the best process to clean and maintain the wheel? Do I hit it with a leather cleaner first, then some sort of protectant?

My wheels: I have what are supposed to be satin bronze Vossen VFS-2 wheels (picture 2). The brake dust situation is ridiculous and makes they basically gray. What supplies and method are best for cleaning the insane amount of brake dust that OEM brakes generate?

    Thanks!

Akebono Pads for the brake dust issue - went from awful to wow they still look clean after a few weeks. Seriously do it. Cleaning the wheels with the OEM brake pads was tedious....now way quicker to clean.

    Steering wheel -
    Clean with Zymol Leather Cleaner
    Finish with Zymol Leather Conditioner

    Or

Clean with Lexol Spray Leather Cleaner
Finish up with Lexol Spray Leather Conditioner

There are many other products as well.
