To start things off, I live with my parents in a private Community (im only 19)
i get home around 2 o'clock last night, and am about to go asleep. I had all of my windows open in my room becuase it gets hot here at night. So I hear someone talking outside, and look outside and couldnt see anything, and thought it was some neighbors getting home late. , then I look outside again, and there is someone in my driveway crouched down with there hands on my car. my room overlooks my driveway so I hit my panic button, and run downstairs and out the door. bastards got away, and I couldnt sleep all last night ! there was no damage done to the car.
Forgot to mention a month ago one of my neighbors got there wallet stolen from their car, and another neighbor had his car broken into because there was a case of beer in it.
Sorry for the long rant, but i couldnt sleep all night worrying about my car
Are the stock alarms pretty crappy ?
Is it worth it to get an Aladdin alarm or something like it ?

Yeah the stock alarm sucks...if the crooks know anything about Audi's they'll beable to break into it and you won't hear a noise from the alarm.

Yea, samething happened to me before. 2 HS kids tried to break into my car in a mall parking lot. One of them drives an A4. Bastards
Yes, stock car alarm dont consider an alarm. They just lock and unlock the car. Is good to invest in an aftermarket alarm system, which i did after that incidents.

Go all out and get the Viper alarm with the transponder thing that tells you which side of your car is getting ****ed with. Plus it vibrates and pages your ass if your away from your car.

At my local car audio/alarm shop I beleive their running around 450 w/ all options plus install. Their pricey. But its the only alarm that I would get. If your walking in the mall you can get paged if someone or something sets of your alarm. It makes sense.

Just about every Alarm system sold now is designed and manufactured by the same company, including Viper...they are all pretty much equal. What really matters is how it integrates and how many sensors are included with the system kit.

The viper is the best on the market right now because it's one of the only ones that comes with a pager. An alarm is uselss once your out of audible range.

I'm getting a Viper security system, or maybe a Cobra, Diamondback, or an Anaconda. Break into that, buddy. Pain in the butt if you forget to turn it off though.

Either poisonous snakes or a Rotweiler, or something like that...Try and steal it, buddy

I've installed them for years and their quality has gone downhill. Especially since they started diversifying into audio then video. Just not the product they once made.

Alarms are not designed and manufactured by the same company. Some companies hold patent over technology or even ideas. That's why there's always constant lawsuits in the industry.

There are a lot that come with two way communication. Those are the ones with the least transmitting range. The two way systems are very limited for recieving range. And by the way I've replaced more two way Viper remotes than systems I've installed. It's not only Viper though. All the two way stuff is limited.

since our cars don't have imobilizers do any of these alarms help out with that problem? or are they all just high-tech noise makers? is there anything that will do more than just make noise and let me know that someone is screwing around...like actually stopping the theif?

Immobilizers are even easily bypassed now, if you have the right equipment. Alarms are just noisemaker to scare off would be amateurs. Don't get me wrong a descent alarm installed with good plan by a good installer can slow down or possibly stop a thief. But that all takes money. A tracking system is your best bet for thieves. It helps locate where the cars are taken to. That too is as effective as it's installation.

Good information. I myself wouldn't want anything that wasn't two way. And your right, some sort of tracking device is where to invest the money..

You have to remember that even though u have a pager, might not always will page u due to many factors (range, buildings, parking lot, sensative to sth...)
I'll look into Clifford and Compustar

Right, there's a lot of factors limiting range.

Clifford is now another DEI company along with Avital, Viper, Python and so on.

So far the best range on a two way system that I've found is from Astroflex. Check out the 5204.

I don't know if I could live without my two way either. It's kinda like a cell, once you get used to it it's hard to live without it.

I realize that, but when it does page you, you'd wish you could make out with your two way ;-).
