Driveline noise?

I just picked up an 01 S4 6-speed with 45k miles and it seems like it has a slight driveline noise(gear whine) at 60mph under light accel. (it's quiet under steady cruise).

If I had to guess, I would say it's coming from the transmission/front ring and pinion. Anyone have a similar problem, or is this considered normal?

Could use more info... Does the whine come on when you lightly get on the gas, and stop when you let off?

If so, it's most probably a differential that's going. After a couple good hard redline launches my rear diff was howling like a sick puppy. It lasted for a really long time after that though.... it never broke before it got replaced. I'd have it checked out under warranty since it should still be valid.

BTW, got any pics of your Camaros? I used to have a 98Z. What kit are you using on the TT SS? Love the LT4's too...

Could be your throw out bearing going bad also.

Yeah, it sounds like a differential, under steady cruise it's quiet, when I give it gas and put a load on it it starts whining.

I just didn't know if that was common or not.
