Unhappy Check Engine Light from Test Pipe...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was warned this might happen but thought I beat it out since I drove a few hundred miles and nothing... anybody know any solutions to this.. I don't mind the light, but I don't wanna run into problems when down the road something sets it off and I just think it's my test pipe...

there's a fix for those that the VW guys have been running for awhile. the light hasn't been setting off, though i don't remember if they were checking for a stored code or anything...

Here's the link for all ure catless glory lol.

i'm assuming that the CEL is poping up off the 2nd O2 sensor, that would make sense at least...

either way you go you still need software to run the big turbo. GIAC or REVO big turbo kits give you a discount if you have their software.

Damnit... I'm so torn. I have money for Revo but I also have money for a turbo kit and I'm not sure which to do or if its even safe to run a turbo kit w/ no FMIC, which I don't have money for...

I knida wana attempt that fix that the VW guys did.

    Huh?

Just get a Turbo kit that uses the Revo program. You need software anyways for a big tubo kit.

We tried that both on the Audi/VW but after some hard driving the O2 will still throw a cel. We have even tried mounting the second O2 further back and we even changed the angle and still no luck. But we might be wrong you should give it a shot.

I'll try it and let you know how it goes... if all fails, than I guess I'm gonna be looking at getting Revo from you...

By the way, what does the test pipe do for you anyway? If it's any good, maybe I'll get one.

yes it is considerably louder than stock. but when u consider the fact that we have turbos, and the audis utilize two mufflers (and two more resonators on b6s) to further quiet things down it really isn't soooo loud that u can't drive it on the street becuase it'll drive u nuts. it is louder, but something that u could toy w/ and besides, for video purposes u could use it to shoot flames hahahaha.

u won't pass smog w/ it, and in certain states if ure caught w/ it on then they mite impound ure car or impose a very serious fine. also since hp gains w/ the test pipe are normally quite minimal, most ppl just opt for a high flow cat so they can retain low end tq #s.

Yowee, here in Calif I bet they'd impound my car . . . I guess I'm off the 'test pipe customer list.'

    thanks again, much appreciated

ps . . . think I'll look into the high flow cat instead.

We have tried 4 different O2 Sim's and none of them work the bosch ECU hates it when there is any change in voltage any where. we even connected the sim’s to a clean 12V and still had no luck thought I'd save you a lot of time and money.

Whenever time comes to pass emissions I'm gonna be bold and leave it on, hopefully I'll pass w/ it on... if not, I'll go home, switch and come back... but no way in hell I'm popping the hood and letting them see it.

u won't even come close to passing smog w/ a test pipe on, high flow cats already reak enough as it is compared to a "clean" car, straight pipes are much worse...

We even e-mailed this guy after having trouble understanding his write up and he e-mails back saying that his write up was incomplete and some how it had slipped through and got posted by AW. He also mentioned that it did not function on every car. We went ahead bought the parts from Radio Shack to try this remedy and sure enough it did not work for us either. Feel free to contact him a real nice guy.

It might work for you we tried it on 3 B6 A4's.

Nothing has worked for us but why don't you give it a shot and let us know. We have a company currently working on a solution but they have been working on it for over 4 months and still no solution.

What’s funny is you'll put the thing on a car and you won't see a CEL so you get all excited and then a CEL appears. Sometime it comes on right away and others it takes a week but it comes on never the less. By the 3rd or 4th attempt using different modules and gadgets you start loosing faith. Our ECU's are a bit smarter than the Jap cars so they don't like to manipulated and you must train it from within.

Our testing revealed that the O2 sim’s commonly used on newer Jap cars OBD2 systems don't work well with the Bosch Motronic ECM, but then again we might be wrong.
