i recently installed my evo intake, and while trying to take out the MAF, the solid green wire came out, and my check engine light is on. is that wire fixable? or do i have to get a brand new MAF?

There are four wires going to the MAF.

    Green
    Yellow
    Red/Green
    Brown

The Brown is ground. The Red/Green is Power. The Green and Yellow wires go to the ECU to provide your air flow signal. Since the Green is broken, your ECU is probably running in a protected mode where it won't make much boost to prevent running lean. The ECU will run a pre-determined fuel map to keep the engine safe.

Is there any wire left on the connector? If there is none, you'll have to open the harness and re-pin the green wire. I can't recall is that was a molded plug or not. If it is, you mioght want to get a connector off of a junked car and re-spice all the lines.

Don't use just crimp connectors to splice these wires. They are exposed to moisture so, you should twust the wires together, solder them in place and then cover them in shrink tubing to seal them up. Wraping electrical tape can be done after the shrink tubing.

Thats not part of the MAF. Thats the wiring harness that goes to the MAF you should be be able to solder that wire back together. The T28 guys seem to have a problem all the time with broken wires to the MAF. So it's perfectly fixable. Im' sure the car runs like crap with it broken....it's like running with a fried MAF.

I had the same problem with my N75 wiring. The wire inside the plug was severed. Instead of getting a new connector, I just peeled back the rubber boot, soldered the wire back together, and rolled the boot back down. Fixed.

TheDude - MAF = Mass Air Flow (meter), which most here use interchangeable with MAS (Mass Air Sensor). It measures the air coming in through the air filter to before it goes into the intake. It's like a meter. Then the ECU knows how much fuel to deliver for the optimum mix in the cylinder.

    Mass Air Flow sensor.

It's a sensor that is inside the airbox. It measures the actual quantity of air traveling into the intake pipe. It then reports this amount to the ECU so the ECU can supply the proper fuel to match.

EDIT: Guess DDQ typed a little faster....
