    Wow. This really sucks...

Just got my second speeding ticket in a matter of 2 weeks. On the 73 toll road going 84 in a 65. I was going about 85/90 coming over the crest of a hill and saw the officer on the side of the road, so i slowed down to 70 and passed the car going 70. As soon as I had gone by his lights were on and I was pulling over... This sucks. Time for a radar detector I guess.

Does anyone anything about what to do with this mess? Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

That sucks. The ticket is the least of your worries. Look out insurance hike. Is that the toll road that ends up near the Long Beach area? That freeway is so wide and empty the speed limit should be 70.

Best wishes, hope you can get out of it somehow.

That sucks man, but I kind of understand because that freeway is nice and open. Even in the mornings, it is not very full and traffic is moving fast (above speed limit for sure).

The only thing I would suggest would be to ask for a court date, get it continued, and show up. With luck, the cop won't show up and you are in the clear.

He/she nailed you with radar right?

"all u will pay is the small fee of like 25$ if they will defer it"

What he meant by a "small fee" is the full price of the ticket. :)

At least in WA thats how they roll. No fee, just pay the ticket in full and it will be deferred, not sure how it roll's down there....

How do I go about getting the ticket deferred? I plan on going to traffic school for the first ticket, but the second one I will fight or try to figure out something else to do. What I worry about most is the possible insurance hike.

If you don't want your insurance company involved than you have to get it deferred. Appeal it, go to court, and if the judge doesn't bring it up, ask if it can be deferred. I deferred my last speeding ticket.

Can someone please give a little better explanation as to the deferral, what it actually means to get the ticket deferred, what I pay, and how I go about it. Thank you.

Or you can own up to your mistake, hope that the DA gives you a break and slow down......c'mon a major roadway, with a hill....If I were a cop thats where Id be.......wait wait, oh yeah I am a cop.
As far as a radar..heheh, dont bother. before I worked at the PD i worked for a car per/ audio store partly managing and sellin, anyway we tested the units and the escort 8500 was the best over all with useability and perf. but none of them would have helped you because you were the only one travling on the road and you were approaching a hill. they are only good for flat plane.

no, no never, I love audi's and going fast too, theres just a time and place for it. I guess Ive been to too many fatal accidents to feel sorry for any one who recieves a ticket. Hell I got a ticket in Nebraskaa year ago, for speeding course i owned up to doing it and went on my way.

I don't know if this deferring thing works here in California, if you find out please do post it. Getting a court date and an extension often times works. There are also ways of fighting radar tickets, but it is getting harder all the time.

    http://www.speedtrap.org/ticket/index.html

I recently got two speeding tickets. First one was B.S. I fought it by declaration, meaning a wrote out my defense and mailed it in. The case was dismissed. My second one was on the way home from the Norcal/socal meet. I was doing 89 in a 55 (darn new REVO chip), I was owned on that one so I just paid it and did internet traffic school ( and bought a passport 8500).

A good detector should have given enough warning unless it was lazer or instant on radar.

v1 would be my suggestion. sucks you had to learn the hard way. i can't tell you how many times i've been in the EXACT same type situation but was warned by my V1 and slowed down in time.

live and learn, everyone gets speeding tickets. don't sweat it. I got one a year and a half ago or so and my insurance company never caught on, maybe yours will overlook it as well
Big truck, a station wagon and a Mammoth place. Nothing too fancy.

    The V1/Passport controversy rages on.

Just get one or the other. My last ticket cost $400, the price of a V1 (passports are about $300)
