Don't be ignorant. First off, a flat stock market does not always mean there's a problem with the economy. But, regarding your numbers, the stock market crashed before Bush even implemented a single policy. Bill Clinton's lack of action overheated the economy (notice the insanely large gain next to Clinton's name? that's not from good policy, that's callled overheating the economy). The market was inflated, and the correction was inevitable.

The economy has significantly improved since Bush's policies have begun to take effect. Bush arguable had the most difficult mess to clean up of any president, ever (thanks to the democratic way of Bill Clinton).

If you took basic economics you'd know that economic policies lag roughly 2-4 years in most cases. That's why Clinton rode it out so he could pass off the mess, instead of being the bad guy and slowing it down like a responsible president would have done.

Also, jobs are the last to rebound in a recovery. That is why the Dems are holding on by a thread in their "the economy is bad" claims. Now that the GDP numbers have steadly grown each quarter, they have nothing else to go on. So, then they said jobs are down. But, now jobs have rebounded, and will only continute to improve in the next two quarters.

So, next they'll have just go back to talking about Kerry's 4 months in Vietnam. But, that's already being disputed. So what's next? Well, they'll probably go watch Michael Moore's movie again and try to create some more conspiracy theories.

I think DDQ has a good point about the economy, but I feel that the economy could have rebounded better if the gov't didnt spend so much money on like the war

Ok ok, I get a little heated about this stuff. I am a Republican in the sense that I only have two choices to choose from. But, many of my beliefs differ from the GOP. For instance, I don't like to hear a politician wear his religion on his/her sleeve. I also am pro-choice. But, I'm more concerned with the economy, taxes, and the safety of our country. That is why I will vote for Bush.

Sorry Broken, I didn't mean to go off on you, but I get a little annoyed when I hear crap that is regurgitated by the media. Every day they just data mine some poll or chart to make everyone think that we're going to hell, just so you'll tune into the news everyday to find out what went wrong next.

Damn these political threads! I wish I never found the GCC forum . For my first two years on AZ I never even clicked on it.

Ok, I didn't have time to read all of DDQ's post, but I'm gonna assume he said it right.

Anyone who has taken basic economic courses knows that it goes in cycles and even if we have a monkey in the white house, he could be deemed to be doing a swell job if its timed right.

    A rhetorical question:

Bush doesnt win the election this year and Kerry's in office - the economy goes up and on the rise, are you still going to say, "Oh yeah Bush set that up." ?? :P

Definitely not. I'm not close minded.

In practice, presidents have very little to do with economic growth. Monetary policy (which is controlled by the Fed - which is indepenent from the administration in power) is what really has the impact.

But, if Kerry is elected, the biggest concern is gridlock. We must recognize that the President cannot do sh!t without approval of the Senate. And the Senate is Republican right now, and will be again on all counts for the next term.

What that means is that if Kerry is in power, none of his policies will be approved, and will be vetoed. Hence, gridlock. Not much gets done in gov't when you have a president from one party, and a senate from another.
