Angry Oil Filter for 2004's-long vent

I know this was covered and discussed and thank god for some of the great members on this board for bringing it up a few months back. I went in for my first service this week armed with the correct part number for the large oil filter required by the newer 2004's and told the dealer that he was to put that one on no matter what. Now for those of you that don't know I am stationed in Germany and have to have all of my work done at the German dealerships. Not a big deal right? WRONG!! I went to 3 different dealers and all said no, no and hell no, you are crazy. That part is not in our computer for your engine code AMB. Finally said ok, I don't care what it says, Audi USA told me I have to have this one for warranty! Thought I was good and clear with this and a yellow sticky with the part number and a head nod and a "JA JA , we make this no problem for you" from the mechanic..... guess not.

How bout these dudes still put the 06A filter instead of the 068 filter on my car and told me pretty much told me that I was crazy for trying to get the other one. That was it, I went home and called Audi AG and Audi USA and stated my case. Audi USA, mad love for them, knew what the hell I was talking about and got right on it. Audi AG here in Bierland was pretty cool too, but they had no F-in clue waht the hell I was bitchin about. No that filter is wrong they said.

Called the dealer the next day and asked what the hell was up?, and they said "no we put the right one on, you don't know what you are talking about?" I said no, NO, NOOO fool. SO they called Audi AG and I guess Audi USA had opened a report and got them up to speed cuz like 10 minutes later the dealer called back and said, "oh you were right. Come back and we fix it."

Ya see I have a jacked up warranty, since I have an american spec Audi in Germany my warranty adapts to the German warranty for Audi which is 2 years unlimited miles, but I am here for 3 more years beofre I go back to the states and then when that happens my car will adapt to the US warranty which is 4/50,000. That leaves me with a year with no warranty coverage!!! Crazy eh??? That is why I am making sure everything is legit.

My next service is a couple of months away...I'm already preparing myself to deal with the "big filter issue"...<sigh>

Kako: Audi switched to the bigger filter AND synthetic oil for 04.5'. The obvious explanation is that cars running on dino oil for 10k miles where having some lubrication issues.

This was posted by bhvrdr some time ago:

    Hi Everyone,
I saw some questions on motor oil so, I thought id post my synthetic oil database. I recommend a quality synthetic 5w-40 such as Redline. Audi has noted premature engine failures due to oil sludge which is their reason for switching to a larger oil filter for our cars in MY04.5.

The new oil filter pn is: 068 511 561 B

The new filter adds approximately .5 quarts to your oil capacity. Your dipstick will remain reading accurately with the larger oil filter.

Here is my synthetic oil database to help you choose the oil best for you and your driving conditions. cheers! mike

Dang! So oil capacity for 1.8t will be 4.2 quarts. I usually put in 4 quarts. Is that .2 quarts really necessary? i guess i can add a tiny bit when i get home..
