Well,
I have been up and down the ranks of Audi Corporate. At least in the Southeastern U.S.
I have been having trouble with the MMI on my brand new A8. They are loading some new software into my car that will fix the problem. The software is proprietary though and the local Audi region manager will not drop the software off at the dealership. So I need to make an appointment and drop the car for a day so they can coordinate all of this. Does this sound normal?
Nobody in Audi corporate knows about the handsfree phone system in my A8. Nor do they know how to get the XM radio hooked up. This is all really crazy to me.
My girlfriend has an inside hook at Mercedes. She heard a rumor that the new S and other new models will have fewer electronics and computers than the last body style. This is due to all of the problems BMW and now Audi is having with systems like these.
I don't understand why it is so difficult. My cell phone for example has an operating system. It can make calls, internet, e-mail, text message, organize my day, take pictures, record my voice and be customized in a million different ways. It has never crashed. I even drop it all the time but the system keeps on running.
My MMI in my new A8 has to be re-set atleast 5 times a day. When I tell Audi about it they look at me like I have three eyes and two heads.
The worst part is that the owners manual goes into great detail on how to work the phone system and the XM radio but nobody in Audi corporate can tell you how to turn it on in the first place.
