    I went to the drag strip today (civil discussion please)..

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    So I decided to bust my cherry today and hit the drag strip just to see what my car would do. Wasn't as many cars there as I expected so I got about 8 or 9 runs.

    The specs first:
    2002 A4 1.8T Avant, Manual, Revo/Thermal
    Weight with me in it = 3810!!
    Temps were in High to Low 80's for most of the runs
    Runs were done at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, CO (altitude 5860 ft above sea level!)
    Full tank of 91 junktane
    Heavy 18" wheels and tires

    Now the results or at least for my best run (6th run):
    R/T=0.042 (my best)
    60=2.259
    330=6.682
    1/8=10.425
    MPH=66.08
    1000=13.628
    1/4=16.330
    MPH=83.82

    Now I know how slow this is but given altitude, weight, gas I think it's not too bad. All 8 runs were within 0.4 sec. Stock intercooler heat sucked. I figure I could have done the whole "race gas, strip the interior down, remove spare, etc" to break into the 15's but whatever.

    I tried out my results with this
    Estimated ET based on elevation and it said my car could do a 15.15 at sea level. I don't know how much stock I put into that calculator but is does seem comparable to what I've seen posted for chipped B6 A4's.

    Regardless, I figured I would use this info from tonight (along with my dyno results) as comparison for when I upgrade to K04, E05, GT28RS, etc.

    Any comments? Feel free to add your results.

    How did you launch it? I think your 60' could have been better but then again i never driven the A4 at a drag strip.

    Yeah, I'm thinkin that the 60' could have been a bit better but I was focusing on R/T rather than getting a clean launch. That was more fun to me at the time! Figured if I was gonna get beat, I could at least get a jump on the other guy. And actually that is what happened on pretty much every run. Example. I got paired with this stock SRT-4 on a couple runs. Both times I took him off the light bya good carlength or so. But he caught me at 1/8 and by 1/4 was a good second ahead.

    I dont think the R/T matters much with your times. The time doesnt start till you go, so you can still have a bad ass 1/4 time and have a crappy R/T

    Also you say the SRT-4 ran a sec faster than you? So then he ran a 15.3? Even he should be running low 14s so your conditions sucked.

    I dont think you're too far off with your numbers. You may be able to drop down into the the very high 15s, but it looks like a pretty fair run. It's no secret our cars are not meant to compete in the 1/4 mile without some serious mods. cheers! mike

    Which way was the wind blowing? at what speed? what was the surface drag coefficient? what was the mean deviation in height from the center of the lane to the border? what was the brand of the timing equipment and who calibrated it?

    Of course you know your numbers are meaningless if you don't take all these factors into consideration...

    R/T isn't that important... at my track, the time doesn't start until you start going, even if you sit there for 3 secs after the light turns green. My question is how'd you figure out the weight of the car???

    I may be going ot the track sometime soon, so I'll see what I run.

    Weight: They have a scale in the parking lot. You drive on. It tells you your weight. You drive off. Easy. 3810 lbs!

    R/T: I know it has nothing to do with my actual E/T but it just so happened to be that my best R/T run was also my fastest E/T run! So that run I put everything together as best as I could.

    Launching: I was launching at various RPM's. Not sure which was best. Most of the time I was watching the lights instead of my RPM's.

    SRT-4: Yeah, he got a 15.4 and 15.7 when he went opposite me. I am assuming it was stock. I actually don't know.

    Times: I saw that a couple of guys on Aworld got high 14's with a B6 A4. I bet they weren't at 5860 ft up in altitude!

    I like to autocross but I wanted to try this just to see what the fuss is all about. It was fun but I'd rather do it in a way faster car. If I do it again in the A4 it'll be either at a lower elevation track or after a K04, E05, GT28RS, etc. so I can see the delta

    There was another guy there in a B5 S4 Avant with many performance mods (still stock turbo's though) who only managed to get a 14.9. He drags his muscle car regularly so I assume he somewhat knows what he's doing.

    Oh well, it was still fun!

    Don't worry Van you will be running 14's soon enough. I know I did!

    I still think thats sweet Van. The true test will be when you and me race in a couple weeks to see what a KO4/P&P mani/NS Exhaust/REVO/FMIC/Spec stage1/TT DV can do against your REVO/Thermal...same software, same car, same altitute...this will be interesting....

    moral of the story for everyone else out there:
    If you are chipped, you will still be seeing the taillights of imports if you try to race them.

    Good job on all the data posted up though. As long as you had fun, thats what counts. I need to get my car to maple grove one of these days so I can see what i'm running stock.

    I hit 16.3's all stock w/ 18" BBS wheels.
    This was at Sears Point in Sonoma.
    btw, my car is 03 Quattro 1.8T

    with REVO, I would of guessed that it would be in the mid 15's??

    If it was at sea level or close to it then mid 15's would have been possible. Remember this track is almost at 6000ft up. Also this was my first time ever 1/4 miling a car. My brother was dragging his car that night and was running close to a second slower than when he lived in Georgia. Add to that the fact that he's got several more "go" mods since living in Georgia. Another guy there running his motorcycle said that in Florida he was running 10's and 11's. That night he was running 13's.
