Ok, it's time to buy a new video card and get more RAM. This game is just insane!!! It take two heads shot to kill the zombies, and the dark environment with the crazy sounds is frightening. So what's a good 256MB video card?

    ----> Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra<-----

The 6800 GT is the smaller card shown in front, the Ultra is the bigger card in the back (will take up two slots). The GT is the entry line 6800GPU.

The card was made specifically for Doom3. Check out tho muthafocking heatsinks!!! Don't worry about the price. You are a baller.
I'm not even going to attempt to play Doom 3 on my Pentium III 800mhz . Oh man my shits is old.

Doom 1 fit on four floppy disks. Four!! FLoppies!! And all that was required was a 486 (for smoothness) with 8mb of ram.

    The times, they have changed.

2 slots!!! Damn!!! I'll look into that. So far the game runs fair at low quality, with a 2.4Ghz with 64MB Nvidia Card and 512MB RAM.

Oh, the irony, the Xbox is a computer. (open it up and compare parts). :D

But if you got the moneys for elite computer hardware, like the gpu mentioned above, then the real pc box owns. :D

    $3,000?!

I paid $320 in parts for my 3.0 ghz and put it together myself...

I guess that doesnt include the monitor, hard drive, and gfx card (I got my 128mb Gforce FX 5600 Ultra for $150) and it does so much more than just play games...

but I see what you mean.

    Xbox is for chumps......
    ---- now onto Doom 3 ----

I am one of the original Doom players - you can call me old skool, old, stoopid, whatever. But Ive been around.

Doom 3 is almost perfect. They maintained what they did in 1 and in 2 and made it that much better in 3. I had no idea what I was in for, its been years since I've played doom. But, not only does the game kick ass in terms of graphics and sound, but the feel and control of the game is almost nostalgic back to the pervious versions!

This game rocks, if you have a half way decent system. I don't have a $3000 pc either and I think the game is just fine.

    Here is what I'm running

1024x768 @ high Quality - I tried it at 1600x1200 - it played fine, but I liked the extra smoothness at 1024

    System
    AMD 2400+
    Nvidia 5700Ultra2
1gb matched DDR2 low latency memory
    19' Trinitron

And like I said the game runs flawless. Granted I can hear my fans go into turbo jet mode after about 30mins of playing, but the game is intense! Its all about the lighting.

    **** EDIT ****
Just found this little tweak for Doom players

I have not done this, this is a do at your own risk type of thing.

    Maybe on lowest setting. :)

I'm with Kirath, I'm a Doom player since day one (and Wolfenstien 3D before that). Its funny how i read these comparisions to Doom3 as "wannabe" Halo (AWOT mainly :P) and etc from all these new generation kids with their xboxes, who dont know what they are talking about.

Halo is good, but doesnt even compare to alot of the stuff already out there on PC. Halflife for one was a lot better than Halo. Why dont popele say that? Well HL isnt on the xbox, you get the idea (HL2 will be though). Besides, Halo was an original hyped up PC title years before MS bought he rights (while they were developing the Xbox).

I agree the Xbox is good for what it is, a cheap (pc) gaming solution, but consoles will still never get the crop of good PC games that are non-arcadish. Like the many point and clickers that require mouse action, such as R-T-S games (Warcraft, Starcraft, Age of Empires.. etc). I guess it could be pulled off with the analog joypads, but man you would get owned so fast.

I've always stuck with console to play consoel type games, generally any type of sports game and fighting games.
