    Flywheel and Clutch

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I'm after a good reasonably priced flywheel and clutch set.

    It's for a 1997 Audi 1.9TDi Quattro sport.

I am not after a race kit, just for your everyday driving.

Please could the UK members answer this one.

    Thanks!

If you drive this car everyday, stay with the OEM dual-mass flywheel. The lightweight flywheels for the A4 are noisy and ruin low rpm torque.

    As far as clutches go:

If you're always going to keep the stock turbo, get a stock clutch

If you're going to get a larger turbo than the OEM one, the following brands are decent:

    Spec
    Southbend
    Werks of Art

not everyone has problems with their flywheels. i have a 12lb and everything is perfectly fine. my problem right now is getting used to my 4100 lb pressure plate.

as far as clutches go i would recommend south bend or the company formerly known as werks of art.

You are the first person I've heard from that doesn't have a ticking car after installing a LWFW. I'm not sure why but, maybe the step height on your FW is different from most of the other ones out there.

There's a very large number of people on here and AW who have had this same problem with various clutches, it always turns out that the LWFW was the common part that each person installed.

I spoke to 2 diffrerent guys over at New Dimensions and they both explained that the Spec clutches have some issues of their own but, the ticking noise is specifically from the LWFW.

Apparently, the way that the FW interacts with the clutch disc when engaged, causes it to chatter. The friggin' guys at Spec told me it was only a temporary thing that would go away with break-in. I've got 1200+ miles on it now and its the same, if not louder.
