Kayaking in NorCal 411 anybody?

I haven't kayaked locally since moving down here, and wanted to get out on the water while it's still Summer. NE1 know the good spots, and more importantly, since I don't own one, a place where rentals are available?? Delta area also a ++ since I live closeby.

your best bet is a lil north around sacramento and the american & russian rivers. don't know about kayak's but i do know there's white water rafting tours. they'll only let you go on your own on class 1 rapids. i believe some local stores will rent out kayaks.

OK thanks; never actually tried rapids kayaking, always pictured that was kind of an X-Games intense sport. But if class 1 rapids are available, I guess that wouldn't be too bad.

you can see the kayakers in the background hanging out in the 'rapids' they were really pathetic...but eneough for them to practice their kayak tricks... this was about a couple months ago.

dunno what level u'r at, but i know u can rent kayaks at lake merrit or lake chabot, and i heard of a kayak shop in jack london, oakland. rei should have kayaks but dunno about rentals, but im sure they'll be nice enuff to lead u in the right direction
