It will be getting some rattle can flat black until I shave and tuck everything (next winters project is building the engine and shaving the bay)

Nice job, Rob.

Just one thing - as you're going for a color change, it would be wise to remove ALL removable panels, fenders, doors, hood AND trunk lid, and paint them off the car.

The same goes for the window frames in the doors, and door latches. You've done the hard work already, which of course was the welding and filling, and made an excellent job of it. Last thing you want to do is cut corners on the quality?

Just a thought, and good luck with the project, can't wait to see the finished product.

I am by no means cutting corners. My painter has 30+ years of frame up restoration. Deals with 80's Ferraris, Lambos, Porsche, and tons of $250,000+ restoration projects. He has a room full of concourse trophies with magazine features all over the walls. Hell, he even has newspaper clips on the wall of the NY Times talking about how NYers are sending their cars to Nicollet Minnesota for this guy to restore their car.

I think I can trust him and his body work knowledge to paint my car any way he wants. I totally appreciate your concern though. If I was going with any old joe painter, I would completely dis-assemble my car.

Booth time is setup for SATURDAY. I did my hood in about 3 hours. Pretty simple actually to do. Just make sure your line looks good

It all looks so damn good. Nice to see that we're not the only state with freakish weather. It was 85 on Friday and the weatherman says we'll get thunderstorms today with a chance of hail. Of course, those guys are wrong 98% of the time...


Have you seen this widebody S4? It is the one from the SCC USCC and runs a 275/35/18 on a 18x9.5 et40 Enkei rim.

Thanks for the kind words. As for my car, I had the rears pulled out as much as possible with out cutting any metal and I believe the body shop used a little bondo to fill in any "wavyness". The front fenders were cut, pulled, and a strip of metal was used to reinforce the lip since the original was cut off. The fender also sits a little higher than the factory fender to help clear the tire. I currently run a 275/35/18 on a 18x9.5 et40 Enkei rim. The front has spacers as well for inside clearance (the extra front track will recquire you to play with suspension/alignment setup). The car seems to handle very well even though people said that the car would't handle right (it drives fine). I will try to locate some pics for you. I basically figured what rim and tire I was going to use, figured out inside fitment, and gave the car to the body shop with the new setup on for them to work with.

The alignment issue is interesting. Since the track is wider the tires will have more leverage over the hubs which could make a bad alignment hard to drive. Getting it just right may require some tweaking and tuning. You may want to PM ss4 (Brent) for info on his alignment specs for the track and street.

im sure he used radiator paint. it's the only paint that actually helps heat disipation. unlike the others that will trap heat.

eastwood company has a good radiator paint. that's what i did mine with.

Yea I used radiator paint. Hi-temp paint also works if you get the right stuff. Engine block paint will not hold heat in.

That S4 is ugly IMO. Fenders just don't look right. (my opinion obviously)

yeah, the first time i did it i used duplicolors high temp enamel. it was a spur of the moment thing and that was the best thing available to me. after about a month, i started noticing some pretty good chipping on the pipes and a bit on the core/endtanks. and it just kept getting worse the next few months(granted, this was all during winter, and driving to and from a ski resort 6ish days a week)

but then i stripped the paint off the pipes and redid it in radiator paint. MUCH better adhesion and durability imo. so be glad you did it right the first time!

Anyways, car is primed and now the block sanding starts. So far its all straight! Hoping for paint this weekend. Patience= quality lol

Then it's time to re-assemble a lot of new stuff! NX kit, roll bar, rear seat delete, more suede, and bumper mesh! yah for never ending projects!

Got some K36 on the car! Paint will come Wednesday this week- FOR SURE.
Also flattened the tail lights, and installed the NX n-tercooler kit. Very producting weekend for me.

NICE! It absolutely sucks. Running a HVLP gun, it needs to be on the entire time. It works fine, but having more air would really help. Sanding with a DA, or straight line sander was also a bitch. But, what can I say, it is cheap and got the job done.
