Head Unit Wars...

ok, so i messed up yesterday and went to Car-Toys and began looking at their inventory of Head units. Unfortunately, i saw the kenwood ddx7015 up close and personal and liked what i saw.



However, the salesman, working on commission, showed me this other unit, the Eclipse AVN2454 and i began to sway



It comes with Nav already and it could possibly be cheaper since the kenwood unit's nav option is another $1300.

after telling myself that i would hold out on car audio, they tell me they have an 18 month 0% interest financing option that i could do with this. shit man...that's IRA money out of my paycheck as it is...

anybody have any reviews of the Eclipse unit? I know the Kenwood kicks ass, but the fact that the eclipse already has NAV makes it sound extremely tempting...

Kenwood KICKS ASS as far as "bang for the buck" and features is concerned. But it's sound quality is SHIT IMO. Eclipse is more on the expensive side, but their sound quality isnt overrated, and is the cleanest of all the brand on the market. Eclipse has only the features that you need, and nothing else. Everything is "Simple Stupid" on the Eclipse. When comparing headunits, of often use the scenario: "You want a BOOM BOOM BOOM 'stereo'? Or do you want "MUSIC" (Eclipse)".

Eclipse also offers a 1yr replacement, if it's stolen in the first year, and 3yr replacement warranty if it is installed by a dealer. I've had Kenwood's for many years, then I went Alpine and was like "WOW", until the day I tried out an Eclipse H/U, and I was sold ever since.

If you're looking for a good price with many cool features, go Kenwood. If you're an audiophile like myself, who demand sound quality with a good signal-to-noise ratio to crank up the music, go Eclipse.

my friend has the avn2454 in his a6 and loves that it already has nav in it go with the eclipse it has a better res for picture quality best monitors on the market I have an older eclipse and I love it

I would say Kenwood also. That is a nice unit and If I had double din I would have that in my car but instead I got the Avic-N1

I'd go with the eclipse. Kenwood makes nice things, but eclipse is just about the best you can get when it comes to anything, subs, amps ect. My vote goes for the eclipse, plus it already has navi.

Kenwood looks a lot better, plus it matches. I have heard good things about Eclipse though. I don't know the price difference between the two, so I can't really say what to choose.

The Eclipse is a sick unit. I have seen them going on eBay for around $2,000.

I've in the same boat as you. I was planning on holding out for a while for a headunit upgrade until the evil ( hot looking ) Good Guys sales woman told me I can get the Eclipse on 0%.


Good Guys is selling the unit for 2299.99 - rebate.


I just need to order it and it will arrive in 3-4 days.

rebate??! holy crap, car-toys had it advertised for 2299+tax and installation. i'm guessing i'm probably gonna be putting down 3 grand for the Eclipse unit, but probably around 1.5 for the Kenwood.

i think u should honestly chk with nickel18t on the prices of the units.. im sure he can get u a better deal as he got me a really good deal on mine.

Between those two; I'd choose Eclipse regardless. Kenwood is not audiophile grade quality IMO.

hey what colour are the buttons on the eclipse if there are any? on the kenwood they are red to match the theme of the interior rite? so does the eclipse look a little out of place?

i talked to nickel already and he has already been more than helpful in my search for burning holes in my wallet. but i think i'm going to do the safe thing and lock up my credit cards and put off ICE until i've saved up a decent amount for a down payment.
