I understand your concerns, but let me make a few points:
Assuming you really want to buy a B5 S4, it's very difficult to find many that still have a factory warranty (more than maybe 5-6k miles worth anyway) and sell for less than I'm selling for. All of the 2000s had a 3 year warranty, so none of them have it intact, no matter how many miles they have. Many of the 2001s were actually sold in 2000, and with their 4 year warranty you'd be almost at the expiration of that too. Any cars purchased in 2002 would have warranty until 2006, but there aren't many of
those with low miles that are selling for less than my car.
In case you're considering it, aftermarket warranties aren't worth squat with the S4. Half of the companies have gone belly up (just ask around on Audiworld), and other half don't cover claims anyway. Take my word for it, I had a warranty through Heritage. My turbos blew and they wouldn't cover it. Claimed it was "normal wear and tear". I had a failure analysis done by the turbocharger manufacturer and tried to take them to court. They eventually settled, but I cancelled my policy soon after because I had no reason to believe they would EVER cover a defect without my threatening legal action. It was a nightmare.
The car does have 71k miles on it, but the areas that typically fail have been addressed. Turbos, intake trouble spots (F-hose, TBB, BPVs), suspension have all been replaced. If you check the track record of the S4 for turbo failures, you'll see it's a scary sight. That's why so many people are replacing with the K04 turbos, like I did. The engine is the ubiquitous 2.8 block debored for the turbochargers. Those things are built like tanks, so no worries there. You can be assured I took better care of this car than I do of my girlfriend...only kidding, but maybe not by much
Sorry for the lengthy response, just trying to give my viewpoint on some of these concerns.
