That gave me an idea on how to modify my own docking station, without paying $$$, easy to do, and secure, eliminating the possibilities of my phone or iPod being disconnected.


Tools:

Dremel.
1min. Epoxy
9mm Nut Driver.
Flat head screw driver.


Step One: Gut it out!

1) Remove the center console fascia by lifting the rear of the fascia upwards on the rear. The fascia has 4 vertical snaps.

2) Remove the radio, Audi HU requires 4 set of keys and are designed differently from aftermarket radio.



3) Use a flat head screw driver and pull out the air conditioning control unit, remove the attaching connectors by using a flat head screw driver to release them.



4) Remove the ashtray console by removing two 9mm nut screws.



Step Two: Shave it n' Slot it clean.

The ashtray comes apart from the ashtray unit.

5) Carefully shave the part that supposed to hold the cigarette by using a small dremel sander band at high speed.

6) Dry fit your iPhone or iPod inside the ashtray, let it sit evenly, locate the center, where the male connector of the iPhone or iPod connects to the female end of the device.

6a) Dril a hole this will serve a pilot when creating a slot to the bottom side of the ashtray.



7) Once the slot is being created, fit the connector, mark around the slot that is created to evaluate if it requires to be widened, insuring a perfectly fit.



8) Cut the pin that holds the device in place, this has to be eliminated so the device can freely connect and disconnect, without pressing the release buttons.



Step Three: Angle n' let it dry.

9) Angle the device, this helps the device to sit securely in place.



10) Glue the connector in place. *Notice that I am using a different connector. The white connector has a smaller width than the black connector, I used to white connector as my template to achive my personal desired fit.

11) Use a plastic clamp to maintain the position of the device.



12) Let the expoxy dry. I am done!!!!

If all is working properly, and car is turned on the device should charge, play music or video.
