Ran against a 996 Cabrio last night

He was running 20's on it and had his GF in the passenger seat. She was HOT!! We were stopped next to each other at a light and I had it in sport mode so I came of the line a little quick while he was next to me. I was not planning on racing, but he came up behind me really quick after the light. The next light was red as well. We both rolled off slow, but then we both got on it. I got a little jump on him, but walked all the way to 110 MPH. I think the 20's slowed him down, because my friend's 996 coupe pulled on me by about a car length to that speed. I would have loved to have seen the look on his face and heard what his GF said when he got beat by a sedan.

my dad has a b5 s4 tip and all he ever tells me is people try to race him. (little rice kids that wanna go brag they beat an s4) all he has is a chip and the thing just plain screws. its such a huge difference from a4 to s4, i wish i could afford the new one.

a NA 996 is not too too fast. there is a big difference between the S and the turbo/gt3/gt2

There are several factory options from Porsche that will bring out much more power from the 996 Cab. I wouldnt doubt the 20s slowed his speed. I know Porsches are best sat on 18s, that is what they are designed to run on. I believe they have an upgrade package that pounds on 35 hp. By the way check out the new TurboS...we really do live in a wonderful world

There is more than a big difference between an S4 and a turbo/gt3/gt2. You are comparing a $50k car to a $120/$130/$170k car.

im not saying the base 911 isn't fast, but its not a supercar. there are many cars that are evenly matched. But there is a BIG difference between base and S/turbo/gt3/gt2/gt3rs

the base isn't meant to be a super fast car.

I ran SCCA Solo this weekend, the 996 that was out there had some pretty damd hot times! I am sure it was not stock.

You are correct, its not meant to be. It is geared towards hitting low corner of the supercar market...a medium where many people can afford. I would say tho, the base 996 and the 4S are relatively similar vehicles, just a widebody, AWD and 25 or 30 hp. Once you step to the Turbo/GT3 you are in a different market and once you hit the GT2 you are in the top level supercar market.

Satan4 is was nice meeting you in Temecula this weekend. Your car looked great. One of my friends is thinking about the same color combo in an Avant.

Having raced a 996 previously I knew what to expect. I was surprised that I pulled on him, but the best part was that he obviously did not know what he was getting into. There are alot of people with money around here that buy nice cars and think they can take anything. If I were him I definitely would not have been racing another car with my GF in the passenger seat not KNOWING I would take it. I learned this lesson in my teens with my first few fast cars. Getting beat is one thing. Getting beat down in front of a girl is quite another.

That 35 HP kit, X51 I believe, that was referred to used to be available only on the 4S. It was also only a measly $15K for the option. No such thing as cheap speed there.
