No more Center Resonator for me

So last Friday I decided to get rid of the center resonator all together. Even though I heard it would sound bad and be annoying, I went with just a straight pipe instead. I can tell you that I am sorry I hadn't done it sooner. My exhaust sounds very throaty and aggressive at all RPM's. Minor droaning in the cabin at times, but I had that before anyway. Not muhc worse at all. Had MKGIY and Flatline in the car this past weekend and they agreed it sounded better. marked001 drove with behind me and said it sounded good aswell. Again I don't advise this to anyone who isn't ready for there exhaust too be alot louder than stock. but for me it's just fine.

Sounds good. I bet it will improve mid-range power too.

You know it really has. I thought it was just my imagination, but between 3500-5K the boost comes on smoother. Feels a tad quicker.

evil please find a way to post a sound clip. i been wanting to do this but i love how quiet my car is with the neuspeed g2, i swear i gun the car sometimes not seeing a cop a few yards in front yet cops never turn because my car sounds so quiet at wot. i know a louder exhaust attracts the five ohhh/.

Maybe we can get a sound clip this weekend of both our cars. His without the resonator and mine with out the resonator and cat. Get a nice comparison.

how would removing the resonator on a 12v sound?

This is something that i've thought about doing ever since I bought my car but had second thoughts for the droning...I have removed the resonator (suitcase muffler) on a VR6 GTi and nothing compares to that sound man!!! nothing!!

agreed! The VR6 is one of my favorite sounding engines. Even with just an open air intake attached, that 2.8 can howl!

I don't have a resonator with my Scorpion setup. It's straight pipe back to the muffler (70mm).

Sounds great, nothing ricey at all, closest sound to a V6 I've ever heard on a 4 cyl. But, I've heard others that had poor results after removing the resonator.

Also, inside my car it's not loud at all. You can't even really hear the car idle, but when you get on the gas you know it's there.

Same here. I have just heard from others that it is very deep and aggresive. Not annoying at all.

I'd not do it on a stock exhaust. BTW, To give you an indication of how loud mine is, the girl in my car on friday asked me what was wrong with my car. She said she could here me coming to her house from around the block.

Did you guys do this yourselves? Is the straight pipe welded in place, or did you just clamp it in case you wanted the resonator back??

I have the Milltek in now, and have been wanting to do this for a while, but I don't want it to be as loud as Mike's old car (which has the resonator back on btw). I would keep the cat in, so that might make it less raspy...I just want a little bit deeper growl.

pulling the res and gutting the cat on my VR6 gives it that raspy sound from 2500 until my timing chanes over at 4100. sounds almost like a porsche flat 6... MmmmMmm.

I had no center res on mine and everyone thought it sounded good. But, the NA engines do sound better with a free flow exhaust. I've heard many 1.8s and S4s with no resonators that just sounded terrible, like sandblasters.

Yeah it was a bit loud...you set of an alarm on a car on the road in Philly...but it did sound mean.

Must drone and be real loud when cruising on the highway
